    Ha! Boris doesn't cut it as Machiavelli's ideal prince. He's all over being a great liar and deceiver, but wants too much to be loved.

    Machiavelli describes what works. In the 21st century it may be more effective to be loved than to be feared.

  • I don't think there's any strategy to Boris. He is essentially the outcome of the thought experiment: "what if David Brent went to Eton?" Crippled by his indecisiveness, physically incapable of hard work, pathological need to be loved, etc.
