  • Where are you seeing the list of which ones weren't approved?

This release "parkrun to delay restart of 5k events in England" links to this page: "Current landowner permissions "

  • Thanks for the links.

My local one is ok (Wimbledon Common) but the other nearest one (Fulham Palace) isn't - different local councils.

But given both get 500+ people in the summer then just one running would mean it would get swamped.

Both courses have bottlenecks/pinch-points that mean too many runners leads to certain groups (usually the 22-30 minute bulge) end up having to drop to a walk in places, which some really can't handle (despite being told it's not a race and that the park is for everyone including people who aren't doing parkrun).

Personally I think moving it past the June 21st "End of social distancing" date is probably better in PR terms anyway. Assuming that date doesn't get moved out (which I think there's a good chance it may do).

  • Is that DNA fit thing legit? Has anyone here done it?

  • My "easy" runs have been harder than my hard runs recently as I've started doing flat interval sessions again which seem to absolutely destroy my legs for days. I haven't been enjoying them at all, just grinding out the miles and counting down the minutes to get home, the weather hasn't helped either.

  • Is that DNA fit thing legit? Has anyone here done it?

I think it's legit, but I'm not sure how beneficial it is.
Partner has paid for one of the similar services, and has a bunch of interesting but ultimately (imho) not too useful information.

I think the vast majority of the population wont reach the point where they're anywhere close to their god given limitations, so to be concerned that you'll never get a VO2 Max of 80 is about as useful as wondering what you'll spend your 10th million on.

I think you can get to being excellent at your chosen sport with sensible and dedicated training long before you need to worry about what your hard coded limits are.

  • Yes, that’s what I thought. Good diet, rest and sensible training should do it.

(Says someone who’s just been out with a calf and then knee twinge)

  • Anybody on here had any big toe problems?

Bit of a weird one. I have a bit of swelling and pain on/near my right big toe at the first joint near the foot. I've casually diagnosed myself with bursitis but ofc that could be utter bollocks.

This is the thing...it doesn't hurt when I run. I also don't think my shoes are too narrow.

However, when I've been for a long run, I get a bit of pain and inflammation later that day.

I'm going to rest it and of course will see a physio if it doesn't improve...just wondered if anybody on here as had a similar sort of thing?

  • Potentially big weekend in the Lake District. Finlay Wild going for kilian Jornet's BGR and Nicky Spinks going for the women's 24 hour record. Weather permitting.

  • Set myself a stretch target of going under 2hrs in a slightly bumpy (300m) trail half this morning and went 3 mins under, absolutely buzzing. I’ve missed running races with other people, they definitely push you.

  • Holy fuck.

"21 dead in North China cross country race"

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-57216601

  • Absolutely devastating!

  • Nuts. I just saw that.

  • Awful. :(

  • Terrible and really sad. No mention whether the race had any mandatory kit ☹️

  • No mention whether the race had any mandatory kit

I read elsewhere... someone looking at previous years race pics reckons they're unlikely to have had mandatory kit. I haven't checked this out to confirm. I also read that freezing rain in that area can mean tennis ball sized hail. Again unconfirmed but if so taped seams ain't gonna be much more use out in the open against that sort of weather.

Just grim really, whatever the circumstances.

  • A friend of mine worked for the organising company for a while but quit. No mandatory kit, no mandatory experience. In fact, that was their USP! She felt it was ridiculously irresponsible and couldn't continue working there.

Friends of friends took part in the race. A few of those died. It's really awful and based on what I've read, largely preventable. So many things went wrong with the organising and the rescue.

I've been in a race where someone died and we didn't realise until the next day that we'd run straight past his body - he fell off the trail and into a small lake and drowned - but this Gansu race is just insane, 20+ people, including the top 3... There's absolutely no sense of safety here, no idea what to do in an emergency and every race just wants to be harder/longer/etc than the others.

So sad for the families - many of whom only found out when they saw videos on social media of their relative's bodies. No official word from the local govt yet. Typical chinese local govt, but it makes a terrible situation even worse.

Lots of articles about it on social media here but all in Chinese...

  • RIP Ron Hill

  • Not sure if it's true or not but people on my social media are saying that the Chinese government has temporarily banned ALL races.

  • Interesting Bob Graham documentary -

  • Nice, will watch that on the turbo tomorrow.

Have been finding the turbo suits me way better for recovery than recovery runs. Being a newb means I've given my legs a break from the pavement pounding

  • You're welcome, Then another Lakes film which is also great https://youtu.be/laMBEjxlst8

  • Final session before Battersea 5k this Friday. Switched it to Monday to give myself a bit more recovery. 6x400 at 5k pace, then 4x400 at 3k pace followed by a hard 400 in 67s. I reckon the sub 16 effort is on.

  • Free Nike 4% size 8.5
I love my endorphin pros so much there is just no scenario where I'm going to grab these over the Sauconys so if someone else wants to take these to the end of their life be my guest. Good condition not seen huge mileage they've lost some bounce but still very stiff. I managed to get a cut in the heel/outsole on one within the first couple of weeks but I've glued it with foam glue and it's been fine ever since. Just a couple of quid for postage
