  • He was interviewed afterwards and said he was doing the leadout, looked down and saw no-one was on his wheel, so just kept going as hard as he could in the hope that he won the stage. He didn't know how he'd got the gap.

  • Yeh wasn’t clear what happened behind. Presumably someone pulled out of the line, someone else braked and he got a gap. Or he’s a monster and just did a Cancellara

Anyone able to work out what sort of UK time they hit the zoncolan?

He had Bora-Hansgrohe's Daniel Oss on his wheel, with his team-mate David Dekker behind Oss. He got round the final corner quicker than Oss and got the gap, Oss made an effort to close it, did an elbow flick to get the next person to come through, no-one did, so Oss looked back and realised it was another Jumbo-Visma rider on his wheel, and had to keep going. All the while Affini was growing his gap.

It's a 45 minute climb for the GC leaders, so they'll start it around 3-3:30 pm depending on how fast the stage is prior to hitting it.

  • I saw that Ganna was in the front 10, and got excited that he might do a last km attack, but then he drifted back.
