• Same experience as you but I sell more expensive items - £500 plus usually.

I too have more than one account (two accounts in total). On one, I have changed to managed payments, leaving the other as 'normal' to see how things pan out after the cut off date I was given of 31 May 2021.

I have received the same offers as you and took advantage of 1. on the managed payments account to see how things work out. On the normal account, I have the £3 offer (3.) so it is to get me to buckle and make that managed payments too. I will be swerving 2. altogether for the managed payments account as why put forward 50% fees having made a more generous offer week or so ago (the 80% one)?

I would be interested to know how selling directly is enforced (when you leave your number in the listing, to answer questions of course). It would be good to understand how there will be enforcement on larger more expensive items in which potential buyer would like to view before pulling the trigger. A bike for example.

  • Sounds identical then.

I think they were attempting to encourage people to opt in to managed payments and are experimenting to see what they can get away with on promo offers under managed payments. They make slightly less on the 80% promo and slightly more on the 50%, but thats in addition to the much bigger profits they will make from holding peoples money for 24 hours offset against what paypal must be charging them for payment processing, which presumably they have negotiated down by a massive amount.

I think they covered this by tightening the "you will be charged fees anyway if a buyer makes contact outside ebay before the sale" stuff they were communicating.

I dont have a problem with the Managed Payments thing as long as there is no difference in what it costs me to sell. I will suck up the slight delay in sales hitting my account. I think Ebay will try and squeeze a bit more though with their usual greedy stupidity, but if I don't have a decent promo offer available I just don't list anything. I am not in a rush to sell my stuff.
