  • Ridley Oval

  • Thanks. Thought it might be an Oval but haven't been able to find any that look similar online.
All the Ovals I've seen tend to say Oval on the top tube too.

  • Cheap 70s? 'Bianchi' conversion found on Gumtree. Can anyone help identify?

Serial number below stem of 1C0-4763

    -Edit-

Found a picture of what looks to be an identical frame in terms of colour, forks, lugs and stickers. Unfortanately it's just an old Pinterest post linking to a broken URL. Labelled as Bianchi Imola but can't seem to find any more info or photos.

  • BITD we used Gran Sport or Pista headset bits when the stack height was small. Maybe the steerer was a bit short for the full NR /SR ensemble?

  • Anyone know exactly why there’s a trek madone discovery channel collab?!

Up for sale near me and I’m intrigued, could be collectible?

  • Hey all, me again.

A friend of mines parents have a couple of what I think are colnago supers that they are looking to get rid of. There’s two bikes one with full shimano 600 and one with suntour cyclone.

Thing that’s odding me out is that they both have horizontal dropouts and the only decals seem to be on the Downtube.

Any help appreciated on what model/year they may be.

Sorry Photos aren’t great, I think they were taken on a potato

  • Don't look like Colnago to me, track ends with hanger was an 80's thing usually. Not sure why but remind me of Roy Thame....

  • I agree, not Colnago. The cutouts in the lugs would be clubs and the seat stay caps would have 'Colnago' stamped into them. Here's a good resource.

  • Thanks! Yeah on second inspection with that website as reference, that club logo on the tubes is all wrong

  • Forks look quite track-like so my first thought is that they're converted track bikes.
But bosses for shifters/bottles/cables make that less likely...
as @midlife said, rear facing dropouts were a thing on 80's TT bikes with super tight clearances but these don't look like retro-TT exotica - on balance I'd want to be convinced that they're not meticulously converted track bikes.

  • Thanks for the great info, these things are a total enigma. Might steer clear of them for now, unless they are very cheap then might just be worth the oddity!

  • Have to say I'm no expert, but the rear facing dropouts were more a british thing I guess. I have not seen many classic steel tt bikes with those on the continent. Here's Obree riding his tt 'conversion':

  • Here is a Viner track bike converted to road with a pile of braze ons..... Currently in my garage :)

  • Any ideas on what this frame might be? Quite heavy steel (gaspipe?) and possibly Raleigh? I got this bike for cheap and I am so curious to know what it is

  • I'd take a bet on that being a Carlton Corsa, I had one as a kid in the 70s. The forks look knackered.....

  • I was planning to update it to some sort of gravel bike, but now...

    The forks look knackered.....

What are the signs of knackered forks, if you dont mind me asking?

  • It could be just the photography, but the front wheel appears closer to the down tube than it should be, indicating that the forks have been bent backwards (probably in a crash). Also check for any sign of bending or ripples in the frame just behind the head tube. I really hope I am wrong!

  • I'd second Colin, that does look as if it's been in a front end crash. It's often the suspiciously cheap bargains. I fell for that once myself (when I had no idea it was a possibility).

  • It is possibly a Falcon. It looks like it was built for 26" wheels as there is little BB drop.

  • I think you are right. I definitely can see it now...adding to the list of things to be replaced. strong text

  • Also bear in mind that there may be frame damage. It doesn't look like it from the pictures, but check (or have a framebuilder check) the downtube for tiny folds that may indicate it's been impacted.
