I live in the Peaks these days but grew up in Stockport. My dad took me all over watching Leeds when I was a kid but I never supported them.
I had/have the same allegiance as you but not been to watch City since about 2014. Always please to see City lift a trophy because it means the Rags or dippers haven’t but I fundamentally can’t invest too much emotion in supporting a club where there’s no level playing field.
Now Macc have gone pop I’m hoping County will be back in the league next season so I’ve got a decent standard of football to watch locally. They could have done with a win last night but only drew. Even County are taking the piss with money these. They signed Paddy Madden from L1 for £250k and I expect he’ll be the best paid player in non-league by some distance.

His mid-life crisis innovation, his tactical red Maserati, has been to become an effective orthodox defensive coach.
Ronay on City's excellent season, with my favourite bit of the article.

My folks moved us somewhere nicer for a bit but I moved back after uni.
Missed the hat museum and seeing lads take their tops off every time it hit 14 degrees.

Not sure if this is a win or not but I've just managed to get two tickets to our last home game of the season, against West Ham, next Wednesday. Only 6,000 fans but will feel great to be back and part of it.
At least I can furnish Big Sam with some thoughts on the season.

Ha. Probably right. Nothing to play for, for us, and European football for WH.
Still; nice to be out of the house.

No one really goes to the football to see their team win, though. It's just a chance to spend time with your mates, have a moan/laugh, shout at the ref a bit, few light ales etc. Win is a bonus.

That was quite a dredge! From my one minute refresh of the story, that seems like the right result given his circumstances and the clubs responsibilities.

The guy (captain at the time) got absolutely shit-faced with some other morons in the team and chose to get in the car of a drunk team mate and not out on his seatbelt. The resulting crash put him out of action for the season and he refused the clubs offer of slightly lower pay while he recovered.
If you had been left unable to do your job for a year because you got absolutely shit-faced and made some bad decisions would you expect to keep your job?

I would if others who got shit faced with me (including the drivers who committed actual criminal offences) weren't sacked.
-
• #156438
I see your point, but they received their criminal punishments (community service etc.) but more importantly weren’t injured, so still available to do the job they’re paid to do.
In my opinion, all 3 should’ve been sacked. We’ve managed to get rid of Mason Bennett thankfully. He later filmed a video on a train going past Pride Park saying “let it burn”... nice fella.

Jorginho breaking the only rule when passing back to the keeper.
Those guys really must hate Kepa

Arsenal winning a game they have made no effort to try and win.

A deliberate handball on the line to prevent a goal is a red card, why not the keeper there?
Also why is the linesman so reticent to put his flag up for offside where there is 3m of daylight? There is no doubt to be benefited...
"Arsenal winning a game they have made no effort to try and win"
Pfft, Since when has that been a concern of English teams? Let's just stick with who's scored the most goals?

What now?

Shit. Gifted Arsenals goal and struggled to break down there defence. I don't think chelsea would score in another 90mins. Just one of them nights.
-
• #156447
ah good point dude. hadn't thought of that and obvs seems harsh. but Kepa should have been punished
as for your second point I wasn't really making one with mine. just in the bit of the game I watched it was all chelsea.

A deliberate handball on the line to prevent a goal is a red card, why not the keeper there?
Because the goalkeeper handling the ball deliberately from a backpass is specifically not a cardable offence. (It's not the same as an outfield player deliberately handballing it.)
Had the advantage not been played it would have been an indirect free kick for Arsenal on the edge of the 6 yard box (at the point nearest to where the keeper first touched it). (If it had happened outside the 6 yard area then it would have been an indirect free kick where the keeper first touched it, and no card for Kepa.)

Thing I enjoyed most about the Jorginho back pass was the absolute age he watched it before realising he should probably get back into the box and help out.

That Arsenal team were dogshit tonight. How they won that game against such an in-form team away is plain ‘funny old game’. What was more bizarre was Tuchel being interviewed saying they should have been 3 up at half time. Ok mate!
Chelsea will still win the FA cup and Champs league with a canter especially given Werner was rested.
The employment lawyer won, we owe Keogh £2.3M https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/may/11/richard-keogh-awarded-more-than-2m-in-breach-of-contract-case-against-derby?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
