  • Khans most powerful argument is that he’s not Shaun Bailey. This leaves him vulnerable to people voting for other people who are also not Shaun Bailey, and that might have policies they like- Greens for e.g.

I think there’s a risk that the vote that Labour now takes for granted in the big cities could also go the same way as I honestly couldn’t name a current Labour policy- any current Labour policy, on anything, and I try to pay attention to this sort of thing.

I’m looking at renting a flat in Edinburgh, which may be A Clue as to how I think the next ten years will go in the UK.

  • Think there is a strong chance of a Green government before a Labour one.

  • Surely they are going to have to come up with some kind of pact at the next election.

  • Labour could start with an internal pact

  • that would be awful for greens

  • Really? I don't. People vote Green in local elections but not in national elections.

  • Not a chance of this happening under FPTP I don't think

  • Kier has fucked it even worse than I expected over Rayner. Absolute shambles

  • What’s holding Labour together?
How likely is a Labour Government?
What direction are the Lib Dems going?
How quickly will Green issues become significant to the majority?
What success have new parties had, how much of a head start do the Greens have on a new party if any?

  • I honestly couldn’t name a current Labour policy

    1. cops should be able to rape and murder with impunity
    2. electability
  • How quickly will Green issues become significant to the majority?
What success have new parties had, how much of a head start do the Greens have on a new party if any?

  • How about no one is a prick to anyone.
    It's fairly fucking easy.

  • Blame Corbyn for all and sundry?

Starmers a dead loss and an asset to Johnson at this rate. Waiting to see what this reshuffle looks like!

  • As ever, Andrew Rawnsley is pretty acute in his analysis:

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/may/09/keir-srarmer-act-urgently-rescue-labour-from-plight

As he says, Starmer has made it clear that Labour is under new management, but the challenge now is to articulate a vision of the country that Labour will create, in a way that resonates with the electorate. Which is a huge challenge, let's not shy away from that, but Labour need to build a coalition of a very disparate set of voters.

  • Personally, I think that gay rights are pretty relevant to this thread given how many gay Critical left wing Tory haters seem to be saying that they will vote to protect their children. Trying to clarify a pretty meaningless statement, that's all. Have to also say the idea that anyone gay or lesbian can dismiss broken Betty's experience is pretty disgusting and bigoted to me

Been here, done this, can we fast forward to the bit where people pretend they always supported it?

I always urge people who may have legitimate questions of what it means to be trans, what the challenges and worries faced by trans people are, and what they want from legislation to talk to a trans person, ask the blunt questions.

I’ve had numerous conversations with women and men who have self admittedly “not gotten it” or “had concerns” and when I ask “how many trans people do you know? And many do you know well enough to invite for dinner?” The answer is usually 0. When people get the chance to ask questions, most moved to a phase of “oh, whatever, seems fine? Seems like we share the same concerns?” , some were “still don’t get it but I see now”.

You may sit there thinking, “but I just get called a terf online when I ask questions!!!!”, yeah probably , trans people live a life of constant harassment in all spheres, medical, work, social, personal, it’s hard man, online isn’t the place for it, as it’s not the place for any discussion really, just memeing and shitposting.

Trans people Just want access to healthcare, just want legal protection to be seen as themselves, just want to feel safe in public and live really boring lives paying rent and hating our job.

  • Message change - Rayner hasn’t been sacked, she’s been promoted out of the way

  • I think replacing Starmer with Burnham would be a good start for a Labour rebuild. He's popular, people have heard of him, and doesn't come across as a fully paid-up member of the Westminster village.

  • Honestly, what is going on?

  • He's only just been voted back in as mayor, plus like he said, he's not currently an MP and has missed out on the job twice before. I think he'd probably be alright at it, but should carry on doing an alright job up here and building a decent reputation then go for it in the future before an election if needed.

  • Trans people are encroaching on women's hard won sex based rights and expect women to give them up without any discussion

    Blame the trans? Really?

  • @Velocio can you just ban this tedious troll already please.

  • Yikes, would seem someone hasn’t been reading both sides!

Only someone reading one side would make a comment like this!

    Whomestuvethunk!
