• Thanks - too little drainage? It's planted in a mix of compost, grit and John Innes no3, and the pot has holes in the base and a layer of pebbles in the bottoms of it. Plus it's stood on little feet to let the water run out of the bottom.

If I can find a suitable spot for it, may put it in the ground in a couple of years time.

  • Yeah too little drainage and the roots would rot but your mix sounds much better. We’ve planted a couple in the garden this year and I’m so paranoid with their progress I constantly take photos of their leaves to see if I’m missing early signs. Not helped by us putting them in sunny locations and chalky soil. I mainly bought ours for their autumn colour (the coral should go bright yellow, the other a vivid red) but it’s my first spring with them and they’re transforming daily... these pics are from the last four weeks...

  • having just googled a bit to check out root rot, it seems that I may have made a mistake in including some slow release fertiliser in the soil mix. Hopefully if I resist any further feeding, it won't matter too much.

Edit - nice pics - looking good so far!
