Let's offroad / mountain bike / mtb / ride dirt

The ones I raced in Oz would take the fast guys 45min and pack-fodder like me say an hour so 2.2km does sound a bit on the short side. How many riders on track? Will it get torn up fast and then be shit to ride?

I've only done a couple, but laps were 8 miles for the 12hr and 6 miles for the 24hr

I can only dream of 91kg

Yeah, I'd only swap mine out if by some chance all the other factors causing me to be slow disappeared

It’s only going to be me and one other guy doing it as a fundraiser rather than an actual race most of the time, with other locals and kids joining for a lap or 2 so it should be ok.

I guess we can always change the loop if it’s getting worn but it should be ok.

Also the good thing is it passes the car park so we can leave drinks etc and good for having a sign out for fundraising

Ah, ok, I'm talking about mass-start XC racing. Two people should be fine (assuming you're ok with the repetitive laps).

I guess it adds to the challenge! It also means we can stay on ok surface uphills and not have too much climbing so if I lose the plot after 4 hours I’ll still be able to ride. Once you leave the park it goes a bit hard

Swinley yesterday for me. I forgot how uninspirung it is in "Summer" when everywhere else is fun.

A lot of it becomes very sandy for sure, I think this weeks rain is actually going to improve it a bit.

It's also so chunky and lumpy but flat so no speed to help you skip across the top

and breaking bumps before every berm.

There are some fun tails there for sure but it's just not very sessionable due to the nature of the trails being a loop.

What a cracking bike. Loved it. It was my first time using Alfine 8 which was great. Normally when I buy a bike I like to make changes but Mike had it dialled in just perfect. Options to go SS, drop bar and rigid fork too so very versatile. Thanks Mike.

Aftermarket dropper levers - what's good? Why are they all £90?

we have been through this; shimano MT-500 or something

You can get under the bar levers for about £20 from Bontrager, Giant and Decathlon, or spend about double that on a One Up

No real need to spend loads on the Wolftooth or Cane Creek ones other than bling

Amey will probably recommend something from Shimano, but I've got him on ignore so can't tell

I've got the Wolf Tooth one and it's very nicely made.

Bontrager one is cheap and good.
