  • This woman should probably have a career as a door-to-door salesperson if she doesn't already. She sounds rather persuasive:

A 43-year-old woman spent 20 minutes in the grounds of Royal Lodge after telling security guards she was having lunch with the Queen’s son, according to the Sun newspaper.

She later made her way into the home and was held after asking a member of staff where she could find the duke, and saying she was his fiancee and had come to marry him, the newspaper reported.

The article claimed the woman had arrived in Windsor in a taxi and had even persuaded the duke’s security guards to pay her fare.

    Sadly:

Thames Valley police said the woman was stopped and later sectioned under section 136 of the Mental Health Act but there was no risk to anyone on the site.

  • A new yacht.

    Youfuckingwhatnow?

    Tax these fuckers.

    £50 says they'd non-dom themselves within minutes.

  • Pretty sure they’ve non-dom’d most of their cash, according to the paradise papers

  • Don't think they have asked for a Yacht have they? Boris has just decided they should get one

Makes me feel sick they have cut foreign aid but decided to fund a yacht as it polls well

  • One little known fact is that when Donald Gosling died he left £50m in trust in his will for the construction of a new Royal Yacht. I don't mean to speak ill of the dead, but what a plonker.

  • I mean imagine making a billion out of your car park business and sitting down to write your will and deciding that £50m is best spent on a new royal yacht rather than, well, anything else.

  • Pffff

What sort of half arsed yacht can you even get for £50m these days?

  • Damned boat wouldn’t have enough room to swing a corgie.

  • They're like x (a few) million per foot aren't they? So maybe his £50m would buy a bathroom ( "The Gosling Head").

It's not even the purchase cost; can you imagine the cost of ownership (staffing, maintenance etc). And then the ongoing cost of protecting it - I guess it'll need a navy escort everywhere it goes in addition to its own defences. I somewhat doubt the billionaires will be lining up to pay those, less glamorous, costs.

I can't believe this conversation has been opened again. Was there a big outrage when the first one was scrapped? I don't remember there being one.

  • i suspect that his largesse is predicated not so much on his admiration of the royal family, but rather his contempt for the working classes.

  • Boris and Co think they will be able to use it for schmoozing dignitaries to do trade deals, thats the only reason it has come back

  • The whole idea can get in the sea.

  • I can sea what you're doing there.

  • Feeling salty about the whole thing tbh.

  • No point moaning about it, the ship has sailed.

  • No need to go overboard

  • Seamen.

  • ‘I should buy a billionaire a yacht’ meme.

  • £1m per meter is the standard rate, isn't it?

Then 10% of that per year to run it.

  • Great collab by Johnson and the royals, smashing it out of the park at the moment on all fronts

  • I had a quick look at the Wikipedia list of super yachts.

N.o1 is 180m long and no.100 is 86m long, so I conclude that if Britannia is to rule the waves once more, a 50m royal yacht will be insufficient.

  • 10% of that per year to run it

You couldn't come up with a better modern example of a white elephant if you tried. Even the colour is correct

  • It's not even the purchase cost; can you imagine the cost of ownership (staffing, maintenance etc). Historically the royal yachts have been used for training and logistics by the Royal Navy so the use hasn't always been just for royal jollies. I'd have some suspicions that a modern super yacht might not be that suitable for naval training though 😆

  • I'm sure it will be suitable for Clandestine Chanel Threat Commander to observe the dinghy's from
    :(
