Which Tyres?

Having realised that there is no point replacing my GP5000 TL in 25s with the same, as I’m not racing (because I am too old and too slow), I’m thinking about what to replace them with. The Rene Herse sound awesome but my god they’re pricey.

What’s the go to 28 that’s pretty quick but not too fragile? Also, what’s the tubeless consensus? I think I’m a convert - pretty positive experience with the Contis - but I’m not totally sold it’s necessary or even an advantage on road.

In a 25 I don't think tubeless is even remotely necessary. A corsa control is nice. A 26c gravel king slick is also nice.

Looking for some 38 / 40c large volume road slicks. What are my options? Gravel King Slick +, Rene Herse Barlow Pass, Challenge Strada Bianca, G-one Speed / Terra Speeds? Thoughts / recommendations welcome

in my opinion, schwalbe pro-one in 28mm do a very good job year-round. i think they are less spendy than gp5000.

Often think about looking for something different, but the gravel kings are well priced and last well. Good grip too.

I found the Cinturato Velo's pretty slow and they're a narrow 35 unfortunately.

@Bossman They're prime candidate but everyone seems to hate them (apart from the reviewers). Hoping the plus version is a bit more puncture resistant.

@miro_o what are they like for rolling resistance? These will be pretty much exclusively road tyres

Yeah I know a few that don't rate them or had issues. But I've not had a puncture all winter on them (running tubeless)

If you're not racing, "fast" is basically irrelevant. I'd look at Rubino or Durano.

Well, I have done it, and it worked totally fine (though the pro ones did come up big for a 25). Sealed when I needed it to and pressure was like 70psi. But it wasn't necessary that's for sure.

So there are two versions. Silkshield and more expensive Exo (120tpi, worth the money if you ride lots of rocky trails, or sharp gravel as they have a webbing ... and they’re a bit lighter). Both feel like a quick training tyre (except massive volume and lower pressure obvs). Think Rubino Pro, not Pasela, not Corsa. Hope that helps.

Max pressure is pretty low though. 60psi I think. That might bother someone looking to ride on ... er ... polished granite or something.

Cheapest place to buy retail was a seller on eBay (an Irish tax dodge I think).

I use them on a disc brake road bike that gets ridden throughout the year on poor quality rural roads and the odd track, plus some night riding. My taste is for tyres at the faster end of the spectrum. They seem ideal.

Actually the 38mm Pasela is a fine alternative if on a budget or you’d rather run tubes.

Popped some Specialized Turbo Pros (not S-Works) on this morning and they came up at 26.7mm at 85psi.

I've got tubeless wheels for cross. I'm going to be using my cross bike during summer. If I didnt want to ride my balloon 38c hypervoyagers -which I've tubeless'd before- are those 30mm tubeless rubinos as good/not as good? How much of a twat are they to get on and off?
(Understandably I'll have to top up my sealant more than I might do atm)

And what psi for 70 kg?

What’s wrong with the voyagers? I can’t be bothered with the none 35 voyager bikes at the moment.
