That's shit, sorry to hear that. My Bullitt is down in the communal shed with three locks on it. Might put a fourth one on it now. Every noise at night spooks me into thinking there are people trying to get in.

another person here with adult level reading comprehension, an interest in the topic and some manners - thanks @Oliver Schick
@jdmitch what were your locking arrangements? I'm asking as someone expecting my first cargo bike next month and hoping to have it locked up using a pragmasis chain and covered by a small video camera

That's interesting to hear, thanks for writing that.

Sorry to hear - get a Monimoto Tracker for the next one.
It won't prevent theft and I am sure the organised crime gang stealing them have some sort of tools to locate trackers but everything helps...

Monimoto Tracker
This looks like a great product, I backed this https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/itrakit-gps-bike-tracker-fits-in-frame?utm_source=sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=bck-03122021update&utm_term=#/ nearly two years ago and I don't think their development has been going very well. If the Monimoto fits down the seat tube and still works then id definitely consider it
-
• #6632
It will not fit in a standard seat tube.
It's 35mm diametre, 126mm long.

The interface with your phone isn't as fancy as I'd dreamt it - it only contact you when your bike is being moved, you can't just look at the app to see your current location

I guess it could be easily hidden behind the seat in the cargo. Very hard to get to that area without unbolting things. Deffo considering this.

• #6634
Could something like this work?
-
• #6635
Seems good apart from it appears it would notify the thief (assuming they have an iPhone) that they have an Airtag with them that isn't theirs - i.e. warn them that they are being covertly tracked..?

Talk of this is going on in the Apple thread.

In the US, it isn't law enforcement that deals with it. it's the fact that selling stolen bikes is not a very safe or smart way to get cash.
Consciously buying a hot bike from the thief is almost unheard of. I don't even know how one would go about it.
Selling stolen bikes to a shop is basically impossible because of serial numbers that are registered at the time of purchase.
The only bikes that really get stolen in the US are the crap ones that are just going to be ridden for a few miles and ditched.
it's pretty unusual for bikes of worth to get yanked.
Not saying it doesn't happen, it's just not common and isn't a source of paranoia for me 90% of the time.
-

is that true for everywhere in the US, though? Land use and sprawl being what they are for large parts of the US, I can see why places with very low 'every day' cyclists wouldn't be much of a concern.
But NYC, Portland/Seattle/San Francisco? I've heard the theft there is pretty regular.
-
• #6639
Theft is common in my (Canadian) city, and the thieves will take anything that has the right value to danger/difficulty ratio.
-
• #6640
I suspect you just live in too rural an area. Bike theft in NYC, to pick the most obvious example, is a real concern.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/14/nyregion/bike-thefts-nyc.html
It'll be similar, to varying degrees, for all major cities where cycling levels are relatively high.

I dunno I've lived in LA, Cleveland, DC, Atlanta.... Anyway whatever's.... Carry on.

Right, I've had a cube cargo on hold for a few weeks but can't seem to find the accessories. This have given me time to think and I think I'll get a UA family instead.
Can anyone tell me the functional difference between the performance line and cargo line motors from Bosch?
-
• #6643
Cargo line gives you more torque, I’d say if you’re going to be pushing the max load limit regularly and dealing with hills, get the cargo line. Otherwise you’ll be fine with performance line.
Also does the cargo line model come with better brakes? Have you seen a spec sheet anywhere for both options?
-
• #6644
To me it looks like the cargo line comes slightly higher specced

Amazing. I was about to buy a Sherlock, can do all the things for the same price + no weekly charging.
Hopefully can wedge one into the omnium rack end plug.
-
• #6646
all the things for the same price
Isn’t the Sherlock like £100? You can get 4 apple tags for £100!
Please post more info if you do get one, I’m v interested to know more
-
• #6647
That’s my poor writing skills - supposed to say I can do all the bikes for the same price with no weekly charging.
Looking into it a bit more think the apple tags might be helpful for a smash and grab kind of scenario from outside the shops or whatever but not much more than that unless stolen by an idiot or someone who doesn’t have an iPhone.
Sherlock you can put in park mode and get notifications if the bike moves etc. There was another one I was looking at too but forgot the name, made in Norway.

• #6648
Brakes and motors are the differences between the models. Both the cargo line and the performance have 4 pot brakes. I'll prob just get the cargo line.

I've decided to stick with the coaster brake on the Bullitt for the moment, and try to reconfigure my brain. I don't have the money, time, or energy right now to do a complete rear end rebuild.

I passed a lovely Omnium in Battersea Park this morning. Was that someone here?
Thanks Oliver. I also read the whole lot.
