it must be such a weird environment to race during the pandemic, made me wonder in the past how did they make sure they didnt get the basic viral illnesses like cold and flu?

I think there's always been a big focus on hygiene such as hand washing etc, especially in the run up to and during the big tours.
@wutm / @Mickie_Cricket had the gossip from some of his inside sources a while ago.
