  • Good afternoon denizens of the dynamo thread!

I have spent hours trawling through this dynamo thread (slow day at work) and it's safe to say I'm overwhelmed.
My new bike should be arriving at the start of June, complete with dynamo hub (SON Delux) and I need to sort myself out with the lights etc.
My inclination is to go for the Edelux front light, but my sense is that the rear doesn't matter too much? I'd like to be able to fit a usb charger as well - how easily is this done, and who has experience with some good ones?
    TIA

  • Edelux front light

Is very good. Be aware that you can't mount the standard model upside down (there is a specific model for inverted mounting)

my sense is that the rear doesn't matter too much

Doesn't matter in what way? Obviously it has to be compatible with the front light. It's also useful to be visible to vehicles. SON's rear lights look nice, have a variety of mounting options, are compact and would work with the Edelux front light. An alternative that is cheaper and will be compatible as far as I know is the Busch & Muller Secula.

  • Big fan of the IQ-X. 100 lux, lovely spread, mountable upside down and plays well with all standard rear lights. £100 Can't advise how well it works with charging systems though.
