I did read that you’d put a handful of miles on one...

From.a design and manufactur perspective i cannot add up how Mason are significantly more cash. There isn't really a valid justification.

Chicken Cycles are selling the top Tifosi road frame, with warranty, unpainted via their eBay store. It’s a well regarded frame, 900g light. Not sure how much stock or how many sizes they have.
You could pay for paint, stick Ultegra Di2 some sensible training wheels on it and still save 1k on what equivalent new complete bikes go for (when they’re in stock).
I’m tempted.

and we have something approaching frictionless trade.
I think those times might be gone.
-

Unfortunately those Tifosi frames are not in my size. Of all the reasons to think that Boris is an irredeemable cunt, an increase in bike prices has to be the most mundane.

I have a PX Hurricane Ti I’ve just been looking for a photo of it where it looks particularly nice but it tends to look quite utilitarian probably because it is. I’ll have to try and take some when it’s in summer trim.
The discussion about pricing of Mason etc makes me suggest the Ribble 725 endurance which really makes you question pricing. -

Where are Fairlight's made? If it's in Asia then your answer is clear. If not then it's hipster points.

Frames in Croatia, assembled in UK.

• #7560
I know this won’t be a popular thing to say but a Mason Resolution 105 is £3140 an admittedly not as nice Ribble 725 Endurance 105 costs £1399. That is one hell of a hipster tax

• #7561
This looks even better value at Mason prices..
-
• #7562
I guess the Ribbles are made abroad which might have something to do with it? Not that it really bothers me hugely as I’ve been riding a Genesis Equilibrium / Zero both of which hail from Taiwan. And vs the Strael which has 853 / 725 / 631 tubes in different parts of the frame so I guess in theory higher quality. That All City which I posted which kicked off this discussion is Reynolds but not clear on what variety.
The Mason pricing really does seem out there. Strael frame sets must have seemed a great deal when they were £999 a couple of years ago.

Rim brakes at that price if that's important. Still a great deal.
I'd just get the disc braked one if only because the colour is a lot better -
• #7564
Ah looked up the price quickly didn’t notice it was the rim brake price. I got my PX Ti in October it was a toss up between it and the disc Ribble in green, the PX was lighter and PX were more upfront about possible (it was a week) delivery delays.
There is a discussion in the Gravel/Grave/Gnarmac aka buy a two wheeled SUV about Ribble pushing back delivery dates -

I know their not particular fashionable but I like the looks of most current Ribble frames. I think I paid about £450 for 725 Norco search frameset from Evans last year, another decent value steel frame. The only that made me question the aesthetic PX ti frames, was that tubing looked a bit oversized in their photos. Think I am going to get a Genesis Volare if I can find a large in stock anywhere.

PlanetX, Vitus futural and Shorter 653 downtubes....... the PX isn’t the prettiest.
If you want to look at the PX in real life I’m happy to show you it, the finishing is poor around the cable grommets and seat stays

Thanks for the offer, but unfortunately not in London any longer. The PX Sheffield show room's only about an hours drive so it's not to far to go an have a look. Although the tubing looks pretty slim in your pic, so maybe I can save myself a trip. I take it you rate the bike highly? Seems the best value around at the moment and Ti's the dream. It's to replace a Van Nicholas that is the best bike I've owned, but has irritatingly tight tyre clearances.

So it’s a cheap bike with some rough bits I’m not worried about that, not completely happy about the seatstay.
I think it’s harder to hide faults on unpainted frames. It’s not amazing it does everything fairly well with no faults (faults=character)
it’s a great winter bike and is brilliant descending really sharp and stable
28 mm tyres and 35mm guards

Above and beyond with all the pictures thanks. I can live with some ugly welds as long as they're structurally sound and it rides well. Think all things considered it still represents decent value and I'll probably get one unless I can find a reduced Volare frameset, thanks for the help.

I have a ‘19 Volare 853 Disc in large for sale. Frameset, 1200 miles, a couple of tiny scuffs, Shimano bb installed. It is in The Netherlands, shipping to Plague Island might be a problem...

Seems like the right thread ey...
My brother is looking for a decent, new (otp) road bike for under a grand.
I know nothing about road bikes so thought I’d ask here if anyone can give me any of their knowledge about what would be good for him to go for?
He’s planning to ride it around the countryside on backroads, on nice days and he’s likes goin fast.

Was gonna say some decent decathlon road bike but anything about a grand will be hard to find stock.
Just checked that, doesn't seem to be much stock of anything around at present. Think the most sensible solution is probably to ride what I have until the covid cycling boom dies down and we have something approaching frictionless trade.
