I can swap my HC3 levers on, this tool just turned up today (via my German smuggling connection):

My "going on holiday with Magura brakes" kit has, frankly, got out of control (entire spare brake not pictured).

At what point does it become easier/cheaper to pay for a mechanic to come along?

Well, my experience of mechanics and Magura brakes isn't what you'd call stellar. I'm actually much happier looking after them myself than taking them to a bike shop now, based on said experience. Therefore, I'd not be certain that taking a mechanic along would be a positive, or save any money.

That’s only partially true- the MT-Trail-SL on the hardtail have been basically faultless, and perform extremely well (with the odd pad contamination issue thrown in, but that’s disc brakes).
The MT7’s on the 295 on the other hand have certainly deserved that.

They are kind of hot looking
I didn't think they generated that much friction?

What’s wrong with using normal SRAM/Shimano brakes that actually work?

Sam Pilgrims latest YouTube video features him with a non-functional Magura MT7 front brake, I feel a kinship.
In other news, I just ordered the Raceline MT7’s.

Gave the hardtail a small service- Hope silicon piston lube at the back, mineral oil for the front, interested to see if there’s a difference.

Are you enjoying the DJ bike then? The kids have been digging our local spot over lockdown and I'm enjoying some quiet lunchtime laps now they are back in school. It's tough on the 29er though (that's what I'm blaming anyway). How much difference has having the right bike made?
They are kind of hot looking
Lack of HC3 lever is kinda sad though for that money
