He's a good person.
But he's also somebody who struggles with his status in civilian life. He worked as an HR admin in the army. Sure, he went to Afghanistan but to do payroll. He likes to tell people that he was infantry and has PTSD.
It's actually kind of sad that he's holding on to his army days from so long ago. He's a bright bloke and a good person. It's a shame he can't just be him and be him without swearing allegiance to something.
