he should reflect on Ineos managing to blow a 3v1
imo Woutje would have won cleanly if he was wearing the aero WOUT helmet like Primoz

Happens to the best of them though. Altho it was quite a clanger by QS

It was never a 3 on 1 situation. There were others in the lead group - Alaphilipe, Schachmann, Valverde - as well as WVA and the three Ineos riders.

Valverde
41st birthday next week. We share the sun sign.
-

WVA was the threat based on form and was isolated for the first time in the race.
-

You can't deny that if he would've crossed the line first, he would've won.

Classy win by Moscon, always enjoy a late attack.
-
• #33009
Don't think that's going to be a very popular win.
-
• #33010
Agreed. Classy and Moscon are two words you are unlikley to hear together.
-
• #33011
I get all that, that’s why I didn’t say classy rider.
Maybe he’ll be better behaved from now on.
-
• #33012
Yes, I ceratinly wasn't having a dig at your choice of words. Fingers crossed he has seen the error of his ways!

Imagine the internet exploding when Quinn Simmons inevitably wins something...

The Moscon win has distracted attention away from Froome finishing 5 minutes down. In my opinion, he needed to show a decent level at this race and losing that amount of time on a relatively easy stage like today does not bode well for his attempts to return to his previous level.

Thanks for doing the Froome watch.
I'd tend to agree with your assessment.
-
• #33016
He probably had to stop to film some ‘content’ for his groundbreaking YouTube channel.
-
• #33017
He still has reportedly another 4.5 years left of a lucrative ISN contract remaining, so he has time.
Maybe not the fitness any more though... -
• #33018
He only lost 4:48 to someone riding his first professional bike race at any level

Vini-Zabu out of the Giro (supposedly by choice) after 2nd positive in a year, no loss. Gianni Savio's Androni to replace them after he blew a gasket over initial lack of invitation, go Swiss Tony!
-
• #33021
It was widely reported he'd signed a three year deal. PCS, which is usually accurate on these things, has him on a one-year deal. Sylvan Adams is no mug, so I doubt he offered a contract which he couldn't reduce or break if performances didn't match renumeration.

RAI claim they have the official photo finish image from the Amstel Gold race.

i've just finished reading a long article about this on cycling tips: https://cyclingtips.com/2021/04/making-sense-of-the-controversial-photo-finish-at-amstel-gold/
the tldr version is that the result is correct.
i didn't know that the image is a composite made from when each rider crossed the line rather than a snapshot at a point in time.

I’ve not read the article yet, but my initial reaction is to agree with skinny that sometimes a race is a draw. For me that threshold would be when the difference between riders (0.004sec) is less than the measurement error in defining wherever the finish line is.

Thanks, good article.
I wasn’t doubting the result by the way, I have confidence in the race officials to get this right.
Excellent sherlockholmesing 🙌
