Lol Tottenham picking a big news day to bury Mou quietly
-
• #155978
Wonder if he had something to say about the Super League, or if it's just because he's shit at managing.
-
• #155979
Maybe they signed up to the Super League just to bury him.
-
• #155980
good riddance
-
• #155981
I imagine it wouldn't be long at all before they start pushing for a Premier League of 16 teams or similar.
-
• #155982
and it least it is actually football news rather than football biz news.

• #155983
Or somewhere like USA.

I guess this is what they're hoping for, fans who are so detached from reality that their club can't do anything wrong.
When Chelsea pioneered the investment in a FC through foreign ownership, it was derided by the press as a pompous crime, supporters called as a money bags. By the time Citeh took this to a new level, every exclaimed it as so revolutionary.
A few journalists blowing smoke up Guardiola's arse don't stop Man City being derided by most as "money bags"

I was amused by this

that was a sweet non-assist by fernandes for the first united goal yesterday. playing without touching the ball is the future of football.
-
• #155987
just imagine 22 players doing constant stepovers on a ball glued to the centre spot. this is the future fellas. this is the future
-
• #155988
I love a good leave in football. I think you have hit on the real future of football.
-
• #155989
Pelé was ahead of his time.
-
• #155990
Aah - yes, of course. I've always pictured him too vain to go to any non elite leagues, but then maybe massive amounts of money and California sun will tempt him...

Can't think of any positives to this, but the only way I could ever imagine this working would be if it sat above the PL / La Liga etc and you got promoted into it, and relegated from it.
Not having the likes of Germany / NL / France etc in it would be a bit meh, but to broaden it would mean you'd get some very average teams in it.
Champions league would become redundant.
But it seems that's not the idea. Can't see this actually going forward.

• #155992
This feels like a surreal practical joke. Surely this idea has been toxic for long enough for these clubs to have gotten the message?
-
• #155993
Cynically, I think it’s a negotiation point to extract more money from domestic leagues. The equivalent of getting another job offer to force salary discussions.

They're inured to criticism. Most of the money (already available and potentially to come) doesn't come from the traditional fans. The opinions of some nobody whose family have been season-ticket holders for generations are worthless.
Edit to add 'legacy fans':

According to source, some of those involved in ESL call traditional supporters of clubs “legacy fans” while they are focused instead on the “fans of the future” who want superstar names

Missed it though. gif conveniently stops early.

Good on villa though sticking to their principles and telling them to do one...
I assume that's what happened anyway.

Very much a "the rich get richer" policy
Income from TV and sponsorship would favour the founding clubs: 32.5% of the pot would be shared equally between the 15 clubs, and another 32.5% between all Super League clubs including the five qualifiers
20% of the pot would be merit money “distributed in the same manner as the current English Premier League merit-based system” according to where clubs finish in the competition or group if they don’t make the knock-out stage
The remaining 15% would get a “commercial share based on club awareness”

They (Agnelli, I think) have described these as 'legacy fans'. They aren't the ones they are targeting for the ESL - too limited a market.
-
• #155999
I wonder how much of the CL money trickles down to nonparticipating clubs/nations.
From what I can tell the FIFA money is simply divvied up regardless of number of registered players to a confederation. Gibraltar or Andorra basically get the same amount as Germany.

When nothing is done, nothing is left undone.
Maybe time to retire to international management for him - he's not going to get to play in the big games again as none of these 12 are going to give him a job.
