If you want to skimp on insulation I'd recommend a wood burner. We've gone light on insulation in our working space, keeping it at 10-15 degrees overnight and then make a fire to bring it up to 20ish during the day.

I did actually have a wood burner in here!
Took it out when I moved it, for a couple of reasons
- It produced a lot of dust, which with all my computing equipment was a bit of a nightmare to keep clean
- It took up quite a lot of space
Would love to have one in here again, but for now will stick with my little electric heater sadly

Im not 100% sold on the whitewashed walls, but my wife did it when she considered using it as a garden room, and I really can't face repainting it.
I need to insulate both the floor and ceiling before the winter, but can't face that currently, especially as it involves ripping up the floor, and there is no chance I can do that without causing mass damage. Considering putting a sanded OSB floor down afterwards.
