ha yeah. things ramped up a bit in terms of games when we had that prolonged spell of shit weather and I dropped in to a number of 1 day tourneys.

will get it back down to a more managable level soon.

Random one, dunno if it’s changed but a queen gets you 9 points these days. Always thought it was 10? Or have I got that totally wrong?

i always thought it was 10 too. though the points thing is kinda meaningless. i never pay any attention to it

This thread got me back into chess, which in turn got my 5yo lad Leo into chess.

He's just finished his first lesson, delivered via zoom and lichess, with a pro chess tutor.

He loved it and wants to start playing in kids' tournaments.

Soon I'll need to get lessons as well, so that he doesn't thrash me.

Finally Tournament 3 is back on

It's becoming an epic saga. I'm presuming next round began as duncs clock hit zero in our current game? I'd have been happy to wait. Hope all ok.

Annoyed that I let it lapse. Been lax on all my games lately as just a bit busy, but thought I'd fended off the counters. Then checked up at lunchtime and realised it'd overrun.

cracking game with @duncs ending in a draw in T2 I think.

and then a win and a loss against @CordonGole (i think) whose ranking number totally belies his game play - think that was in T3

Two good games @jonny do we both go through or is there a tie break?

Usually just play rapid where I'm 1500 so think it will take a while for my classical rating to sort itself out

not sure about who goes through. it seems like from the first round any ties both proceeded.

and yeah 1500 in rapid is excellent so can see that your rating will shoot up when number of games sorted.

Yep very impressive.

I lost my first couple of rapid games and ended up starting from a 5xx ELO rating. I've spent the last 90 days grubbing up to 920 in 10 minute rapid games.

I want to get above 1000 before taking stock.

gutted to take a win from @sacredhart on time. hope all well dude.

Games against @doubleodavey were great. I think probably the best I've ever played. The second game was down to one pawn and the king each. My superior position gave me the win.

Analysis says only 1 blunder from me, and classifies the game as wild.

I'm doomed against BlackHorsey in our first game. I went wildly upfield, nearly lost my queen within 5 moves, then got forked and have been on the retreat ever since.

yes, you did play well! great games, shame I didn't get anything from either.

Fatal flaws in my concentration as per usual. Let me know if you fancy a 5 / 10 minute game some time - that's my attention span limit
