Though I hear he is dreadful at bike mechanics

In the saga of 'have I been overcharged on tile adhesive', the reason I've been told for why 120kg was needed for a 3sqm bathroom was that adhesive was applied to walls AND tiles.
No idea if this is standard practice or not? Still seems far fetched to me, but obviously not a pro...

They back butter the tiles then. To be honest each tiler will have their preferred method.
So either purchase it and see if anything is left over and return. -
• #28206
Two options;
- Offer to purchase yourself, keep the receipt and return any unused
- Ask them to buy back any that are unused at the end of the job (make sure they keep the tubs on site)
- Offer to purchase yourself, keep the receipt and return any unused

Kneepads, talk to me.
Realised that my patellar tendonitis is likely a result of working without kneepads. What do people reckon are good ones for all day use for an electrician? I guess they need to be fairly supportive for kneeling on joists etc. Can't be letting my knees get shagged - I'm too young!
Inserts vs standalone ones?
@Bobbo and @Airhead I'm sure you guys will have some good knowledge as usual! -
• #28208
When I used to dig (archaeologist) I always preferred the inserts over the standalone as the latter would pinch or pull leg hairs. Plus with the inserts, when you're standing you hardly notice them.

Get some that go into your trousers, ones that strap on ive found cut off the circulation after a while.
I use a wee pad for kneeling on instead as I dont wear work trousers. -
• #28210
Yeah, I always found the ones with straps just get uncomfortable as the day goes on, but was wondering if it was just because I had crap ones.
These seem to get good reviews, so I'm tempted to give them a shot. Annoyingly it means I'll have to go back to wearing daft work trousers.

Ive had cheap ones and expensive strap ones and they have both done the same eventually which is annoying.

Snickers with 4 different types of pads depending on the site and how much time you are spending on your knees. Snickers means electrician in Swedish. They are always under your knees when you drop on to them and you don't roll off them. I don't work without them any more.

A bit nitpicky, but I'm pretty sure 'snickare' are cabinet makers or carpenters. Having only used their jackets (which are great!) how are their trousers? I've always used Carhartt, but that's the only clothes brand my builder's merchant won't give me my trade discount on, so might shift to something else.

In tiling chat, over the weekend I did this. Very satisfying. (and 1 x 15kg tub used).
Grouting tonight.

I bought one of these ladders the other day (Little Giant Leveller). Very impressed by how sturdy it is, particularly when opened out as a pretty long extension ladder. Only downside (apart from cost) is it's bloody heavy as a small stepladder

sellers had string shelves which they took with them, theyve plugged the rawl plugs, badly, but also obviously sanded a pretty large area around each of the fillings.
They are mostly noticable because the sanded patches catch the light, is the only solution to this sand the entire wall smooth and repaint?

Used my years of kitchen fitting experience to make the most boring loft door ever. I was aiming for boring.

Yep. Or buy some String and install. It's nice.
