Put rice in pan add salt pour in enough water turn heat on high. Turn off when water is gone.
You should add salt after the water has reached a simmer. According to Alton doing so before can cause your pot to pock.

Depends what I’m doing with the rice.
Nope don’t put salt in or on anything as a rule. Mash potato sometimes needs it but that depends on which variety of spuds are used.
