Agreed. The David Simon book the series was based on is also magnificent.

We're living in a world where everyone has seen Tiger King and nobody has seen Homicide unless they were prepared to see it get shunted round the late-night schedules 25 years ago. Yaphet was too good for this world.

I bid on all 7 seasons on VHS on eBay just to watch the final season. I lost out to a guy in the States and emailed him asking if he'd be prepared to get them copied for me to earn back his winning bid. He agreed and then the copy shop told him it would be a copyright infringement.

I caught it when it originally aired on NBC in the US and they shunted that sucker around in the time schedule to make it a late Friday night slot, it never garnered the audience it deserved.
