  • If you get stuck I have a spare I can post you

  • My dads gave me a series 3 watch, but can’t get it off his iCloud. Has anyone ever went to the shop to get a copy of a receipt before? My mum bought the watch any ideas what I would need to take to get the receipt?

  • Might have missed something, not sure what you need a receipt for, but get your dad to follow these instructions and it will be removed from his account and ready for you to set up as new.

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208855

  • I’m not sure what you need the receipt for but Apple can track purchase using the watch ID - I got one from Hong Kong which I wrecked and they were able to say when it was bought etc.
I’ve no idea Re iCloud removal as I just remove from my phone each time I’ve broken it.

  • So it’s on an old iCloud account that isn’t working and his new iCloud doesn’t have his watch on it.

So apple said the only way to remove it from this old account is to go to the store and get a proof of purchase when my mum bought it for him. Honestly it’s a pure hassle and they couldn’t tell me on the phone what I need to take from her so I’m going blind with a bill and her drivers license.

If I get the rceicpt I can send it to them and they can remove it from the cloud apparently. Nightmare

  • If your mum has an Apple account she could try logging into support to see if it shows up in her purchase history - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/my-support

Otherwise, yeah go with the normal proof of ID stuff. Might be a pain, but it makes sense that Apple want to check though when you think about it. Hope you get it sorted without too much faff.

Edit - I presume you’ve tried to recover the old iCloud account - https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid?r=1&language=US-EN

  • Cheers, sorted now thanks dude.

  • https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid?r=1&language=US-EN Yeah tried everything and spoke to apple on the phone too.

If I dont do it the watch is essentially a paper weight but is pointless

  • Is there a forum approved smart plug for use with Apple HomePod / Siri?

Wanna turn on the espresso machine from bed.

  • I think Meross are the ones to go for.

  • None of those look to be Homekit compatible, but there's an identical looking one by refoss that is?! only slightly questionable.

  • Can only see the power strips and a 4 pack for HomeKit available right now. There’s usually single packs too.

Edit: out of stock right now: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087RCBN56/

  • Worth also adding, these are all the ones that Apple have certified: https://www.apple.com/uk/ios/home/accessories/#section-outlet

  • I'm got a pack of the Refoss ones. They seem to work. Same model number as the Meross ones and it doesn't show the uncertified warning on the settings screen.

ETA: It actually says "Meross" as the manufacturer in the Settings. Odd.

  • And while I've still got you... How can you get your monitors to stay on when you close your MBP? I'd like to buy a stand for the MBP so I can tuck it out of the way but when I close the laptop it powers down both my monitors...

Annoying... Is there a way? There must be a way...

  • Clamshell mode – if a mouse/kb/screen is connected it should be happy with the lid down.

  • Mine has turned off, but woken up again with a tap on the keyboard. Bit annoying but manageable

  • Cool, I'll try that again, I'm sure I've tried before but don't remember those particular steps... I'm probably making life more difficult by using two monitors...

  • advice pls guys:

I stilt the smallest amount of coffee on our airbook. I immediately turned it off, upside down, airing cubard, 4 days and turned it back on. It will only open in safe mode and won't recognise our password.

In the old world I would have popped into a mac store and played it safe, but not in London anymore and our local store is Cribs Causeway and as someone who's meant to be shielding I thought I'd try to sort it myself/locally first. So forum is my first port of call.

    Google has a few ideas:

    • change the password via the admin back door
    • change the apple store password
Opinions online also say the generic, 'if you get it wrong you fuck yourself' and 'take it to your local mac store'.

Anybody been silly enough to spill anything on their mac? Is it worth IYO trying to sort it myself or is it worth biting the built?
We have a local high street 'any computer issues fixed' type place but never had a single issue with any of my macs until not so slightly unconvinced....

    Any help appreciated.

  • ^this is a more important Q

But I'm due an upgrade and which iPhone should I get?

  • The successor to the 2016 SE
