These are what my OH was thinking of
Seems unnecessarily complicated when your shelving units already have holes drilled in them. Heavy duty rawlplugs and spacers would seem a much easier option.

If you want some aluminium bobbin-type spacers, let me know. I have to knock up a batch shortly for my own purposes, and making a few more would involve marginal extra effort.

I have a 50cmx50cm jesmonite slab, I want to turn it into a coffee table, can I drill and screw hairpin legs into it? or will it crack? what are my alternatives?

What Sam_w said (he put me on to it). They took about 4 or 5 days to arrive.
Regardless of what you go for that definitely looks like it needs something to stop it toppling. Child here is about to start crawling so I need to go round and do everything.

what are my alternatives?
Make a mould and fill with epoxy?

i dont follow..

jesmonite
Had to google that, it's nice though.
I don't really follow with the mould either but agree on epoxy rather than drilling into it.

Sorry it's a YouTube DIY meme. Everyone putting everything in epoxy all the time.
But yeah I'd go for some sort of shit hot glue like substance.
Just to ask the obvious, it's thick and strong enough to take the weight on the legs right? You don't need any kind of bracing or anything?
-
• #28064
yeah it’s probably 5cm thick and rock solid

• #28065
oh this is a good idea, just a bit simpler and square

Anyone got a recommendation for a not too expensive but good wire detector?
I've got a Bosch one that is so sensitive it is effectively unusable.

Got a used Bosch GMS120 on eBay for £20 the other day. Not sure if that’s the same as you already have but so far so good. Has detected wires. Haven’t tried to find a stud etc.

Cheers.
It's a BOSCH TRUVO DIGITAL DETECTOR

Annoying as at the time I thought I'd invest in what I thought would be a decent one. Only its too decent.
Used it yesterday and had totally forgotten how painful it is.

Without wanting to sound patronising, are you following the instructions fully? My old Bosch one has a method of calibrating itself when you switch it on. Mind you, it's only one tool for divining pipes and wires and rarely the first one I'd use.

not diy, but could anyone recommend a painter and decorator in south west London?

look decent. I used these for bike storage in my basement - just screwed them directly into the joists. solid so far

I stapled some leftover DPM to the inside of mine, everything seems fine. If you can try and finish all the faces the same so you minimise the chance of them shrinking out of shape.
-

Would've been much cheaper! But I don't have a horizontal joist to screw them into so could only do 1 screw per forward/backward joist which would have spaced the bikes way too far apart.
What do you need to say?
Don't suppose you have a link?
