Only possible with something like Trek ControlFreak
Then again, trek and canyon do this to keep them from rattle:

Indeed. You could only use that, as amey points out, if you have detachable entry ports. In which case, threading the hoses through should be a doddle anyway. Loads of space to play with.

I've just a new bike on cycle to work scheme - first time had bike with disc brakes!
I got a trek fx carbon 4 - nice bike but the components are low spec, was thinking about upgrading the brakes but I'm confused as to what I can fit...
MT201 flat-mount, 160 mm rotor, CenterLock are fitted now - if I'm going to upgrade I want to go all out, what is the 'best' I can go for?
It's a flat bar bike - can I mix xtr levers & dura ace calipers? looks like xtr only comes in rear version flat mount?
Any advice appreciated :) -

Yes, but...
looks like xtr only comes in rear version flat mount?
Front and rear flat mount calipers are the same. Only the mounting adaptors vary.

Cheers, will keep reading up - confusing what is required :s

XTR don't have a flat mount 'front' because no MTB forks have flat mount. As Brommers says you can just use two rears and get the standard flat mount fork adaptor. If you can find a shop which sells to Europeans then you might even be able to get a right hand lever, 'rear' flat mount caliper setup already to save you buying the extra caliper.

Thanks :)
I was thinking of going hope rx4 calipers - could I swap out the Shimano MT201 calipers only and use the existing MT201 lever, shimano hose & 160mm RT10 rotor?
Later on could get better levers/hose/rotor? -
• #7187
Just remember that Hope flat mounts very much are front and rear specific :)
-
• #7188
Well, technically you can use the rear as a front with an adapter...
-
• #7189
But not with a 160mm rotor because it's 160mm rear natively so adding a front adapter would mean it was 180mm minimum
-
• #7190
Right you are, that detail had slipped passed me!
-
• #7191
It's a shame really. 140mm works perfectly fine for my needs on the rear and would have liked matching hopes but I'll put up with keeping the shimano rear caliper
-
• #7192
What's the reason for not using Hope and 160mm? One bike I'd like to use Hope calipers on already has a fork with 'rear-style' flat mount direct for 160mm so I guess it would take a an unnecessarily huge 180mm front rotor.

That's a lot of brake, I think you'd get the most benefit from some better 1 finger levers, but those brakes are alright.

No practical reason. I have an RX4 and 160mm on the front and it's very effective.
I just like the smaller rotor on the rear where it's not as necessary. Looks neater is all.
I'm a fairly light rider on a fairly light bike. I'm thinking about RX4 front and rear for my next winter bike build though -

As long as the blade is sharp and it makes a straight cut without pinching the hose it will work. I have the same and have done many hoses, all good.
I always insert a bit of brake cable when cutting to stop deforming. No leaks yet...!
My 3rd set of RX4s is now on order. We should definitely start a RX4 Brake club.

Where folks ordering their RX4 from? I need PM front and FM rear for my cannondale slate.
Keen to get some in black with orange bores. But the cost of the bores plus tools makes it seem a bit silly an upgrade.

• #7197
Might be worth speaking to Hope and see if they would do them like that straight up
-
• #7198
I'm interested to know too pls, would like to get black with purple bores!
-
• #7199
Ditto. After some silver calipers with silver bores.

If any of you need a Shimano post mount front and flat mount back in Purple... I have these going. You know where to slide!
Local bike shops are preference for Hope I believe. If they have the tools already too the caps are simple to swap ahead of bleeding.
Availability will be your challenge. I’m going to be running my Blue ones on my new bike until the next batch of Silver is run.
