  • Yeah, would be willing to bet everything I've got that it's a scam. Don't think Niche sell anywhere other than direct.

  • It's called a Bocaboca, South Korean brand (home roasting seems to a big thing over there, the little Nuvo Eco handheld roaster I got before was also from South Korea). Bought mine through eBay but you can read a decent write-up of it here: https://dailygradient.com/first-coffee-roasts/

That's the 250 model (recommended max capacity is 250g), they also do a 500g but I figured that'd be a bit big for my needs. I do 3-4 200g batches once per fortnight. Means I have a decent variety for both filter & espresso and I can get 4 batches done within an hour (roasted, cooled & packed).

Like I said, I'm not exactly going to be giving Steve here a run for his money, but it's quite a nice little thing to work with (Though I definitely had a few under-roasted batches when I was getting my eye in so to speak. Was basically like drinking grassy water...).

I reckon a Kaldi Wide might be a better option but the Bocaboca is a fair bit less fuss, as the Kaldi needs to be placed on a gas burner and also has no cooling function. However, it does have a proper thermocouple which would definitely be a nice to have.

  • If you pay with a credit card and it turns out to be a scam, you don't risk anything too much

  • Except having just fired a load of personal and payment info into a random website.

Pressure sale (countdown timer) and a farcically low price - I wouldn’t bother myself.

  • Mine's made it to Stansted!

  • I have been using my grinder as an excuse not to buy an espresso machine, the Hoff has just kind of debunked that . . . (I have the Sage that shows up towards the end). Also wish I'd bought all the recent Gaggias from ebay.

  • Neither would I, to be fair.

Trying to buy a La Pavoni was a journey throygh a bunch of scammers on Amazon.

Whi do fuck all about them, as it turns out.

  • Just watched that. Maybe now is the time to fire my MC2 up onto ebay.

  • Now if he could just do something to get everyone to sell their Cafelat Robots off cheap I'd be very happy - the whole having to import is a bit off putting.

  • Looks great, I bought the portafilter off the same chap.

  • We have that Sage grinder at work. I’m currently using it to grind my beans for at home. I have to say, I’m quite impressed with it.

  • Yep. Hopefully delivered tomorrow? 1kg of Yellow Bourbon espresso arrived today. Excited to be able to use my Robot soon.

  • After 3 weeks of assuming the Svart I’d ordered from Poland was stuck in customs, I went back to check the order and realised that the PayPal payment hadn’t gone through. Gah. Twat.

Big upside is that they’re now in stock loads of places in the UK for around £100. Have ordered a new one for £40 less than I was due to pay on the previous order. Win!

I'm a fucking idiot. The UK Svart arrived yesterday... and the Polish one arrived this morning. Anyone want to but a BNIB Wilfa Svart? Your choice of nationality.

  • Did you get charged for both?

  • Anyone want to but a BNIB Wilfa Svart?

Svart brewer or grinder? If brewer, id be interested.

  • Grinder. I didn't think the payment had gone through on the Polish one, but am going to double check. If I paid for it, a friend will take it at a knock-down price. If I didn't, I'll return it. It was from this place https://www.coffeedesk.com/

  • I've had it once before that a retailer had to 'approve' my Paypal payment for some reason, so it actually sat there without me actually being charged. Bit weird in your case though as by the sound of it that was still the case two weeks after placing the order, though perhaps they only approved and took the payment upon receiving stock?

  • And there it is! Might brave the elements to pick up some beans from W Martyn later up the hill later...

  • I got confused because after a three week wait I went back to check the original order confirmation and found it said "thanks for placing an order, as soon as your paypal payment has been authorised we'll send you a confirmation - this may take a few minutes". There was no further confirmation, just what seemed to be marketing emails in polish. When I checked my paypal activity, it wasn't there. So I ordered another one from a UK seller and lo an behold, I was afflicted by a severe case of the Svarts.

Checked my bank account today and it looks like I did pay for it on a debit card. FFS. I wasn't even drunk when I ordered it. Anyway, my neighbour buddy's grinder just crapped out so he was very happy to take it off me for £60. Good deal for him. Live and learn.

  • I shall be filling to the brim with Monmouth.

  • Got mine too. As @JB said, its good! The only other hand grinder I've had is an old Rhino one. This is in a whole other league compared to that.

First shot I pulled in the Robot was ground too course, so I gave it a few turns and ground another 14 grams. It pulled a pretty convincing shot, with a nice crema. Looking forward to geeking out about all the variables effecting Espresso. I've only had filter at home up until this.

  • @Mucker I am glad to hear that you think it's decent! I always worry when recommending stuff that people won't feel the same way as me. Isn't it just insanely well made? Such a solid block of metal. I really do think it's very good value for money as well. I've used mine at least twice a day every day since October and it hasn't missed a beat. Not that it should have in that time, but it's literally worked flawlessly. So easy to dial in a shot. Then switch to filter grind, then seamlessly jump back to espresso and so on. With zero retention. So good.

  • Another happy camper here. Definitely a really well made thing!

Pulled a couple of test shots this evening and started off way too fine with nothing coming out at the first and a few drops of syrup on the second. Predictably the third came down like pouring rain 😂

Met in the middle (1.6 I think) and got a really good pour 👌 Most importantly, tasted very good. Looking forward to my morning brew tomorrow!

  • ^ And this right here is why I never plan on making espresso at home!
