Are they useful for longer rides for comfort
I stick extensions on for touring and find the extra positions really useful. Even just resting hands on the pads when climbing gives your grip a rest etc.

You had TT extensions on the Talbot when you first built it up. Did you ride it much with those on? Are they useful for longer rides for comfort?
Considering trying a pair for a 300 I'm planning in a few weeks
