Ha, no someone else made a comment in the Gravel thread about someone riding around Kent for 60k with full TCR bikepacking kit on. They're now KentGuy in my head.

Chain Reaction are clearing out black Open Pave's in 25 and 27. They're cheap. Grab 'em while they're hot. Order enough of them and you can use CLEAR2021 to save some extra cash.

Did anyone tried some of these https://www.bike24.com/p2312794.html and can say how they ride ?
i'd like something like the gp5000 32mm but with a bit more volume, but how the two compare? -
• #8006
Yeah I liked em! Like a big road tyre, nice and fast rolling. A bit fragile though. I had a couple small flint punctures with them but ultimately stopped using them after about 6 months because I got a large cut in one a few cm long and it wasn’t usable any more.
Switched to G-One speed.
Haven’t used GP5000s to compare. Similar compound I believe -

Any top tips for GP5000 28mm deals?

Supplest, smoothest, nicest, bestest riding tire for summer? Turbo cotton? Corsas?

Keep an eye here, not much difference though

I've never tried them but surely challenge silk or fmb.

Just got some turbo cottons (28c 'hell of the north' with slightly wider tread) with latex tubes and they are fantastic, although they did replace winter tyres so the difference was pretty stark. Feel fast and the grip is amazing. I have had good experiences with v1 Corsas too but the turbo cottons look nicer IMO and are supposed to be faster. Definitely curious about the FMB clinchers though.

Never tried turbo cottons but corsas as far as nice supple tire goes are my favourites. GP5000 feels marginally faster, but corsas have such a nice feel to them.

Thanks all. I had turbo cottons last summer and loved them. Moved back to open corsas (25mm) and they're great, but I could do with a bigger size. Was thinking of moving to fmb this summer. Hadn't heard of challenge Silk, will have a look.
I'm a big fan of latex inners, I put 30ml effetto mariposa sealant on my tubes about 6 months ago and now they hold pressure as long as butyl tubes - gamechanger!

Veloflex Record

Apparently corsas have more rubber than cottons. And they're cheaper, that sealed the deal for me.
Loss of pressure on latex tubes never bothered me, always pump my tires before any serious riding. -

A layer of synthetic latex inside latex?
You’ve probably made them 0.273 watts slower but you could be onto something.

So as slow and as heavy as Butyl tubes but twice the price, nice.

Veloflex Records are great but a bit fragile to say the least and don't last 5 minutes. Veloflex Masters with Supersonic butyl work brilliantly for me.

TCs, yep. If you can afford the outlay, it's worth it. The only reason I haven't replaced my first pair is because Specialized have price embargoed them in the U.S. and they cannot be sold for less than $80 each. Which is just too expensive. I got 2500km out of mine before I started to puncture. Corsa's were like 1000km before they became puncture magnets. Terrible.
I don't see how a clincher gets better than a TC. It's not as fast as a GP5000 in a straight line, but my god is it nicer to ride. And corners better IMO.
Don't buy FMB open tubulars. They have terrible, terrible quality control, are short life and the tread constantly peals away from the cotton casing. Challenge are notorious for punctures, too.

It's about the tread pattern, though. Corsa's have those stupid grooves in them which are flint magnets. Turbo Cotton's, with their lovely file tread do no such thing.
-
• #8021
Yet the file thread Gravelkings suck glass like no other. Always wondered about useless threads in road tires, why?

Almost certainly no and probably yes.
-
• #8023
I've found it works the other way too - put latex tube into tubeless tyre that wouldn't seal on the road (i.e. with sealant in it); then forget to fix it because it works and stays inflated from then on without normal latex air loss

To be honest, I didn't think overly hard about the effetto sealant. Saw it on sale on wiggle and thought it might be worth a punt.
I don't imagine I'll notice the extra 30g of sealant in the inner tubes, but absolutely notice not having to pump the tyres everyday.
Weight wise the latex tube with sealant is still about 20/30g lighter than butyl.

Need to do some testing to see what max tyre width I can fit. Anyone has any of the following kicking about, even used/end of life condition:
- WTB Byway 700x40 and/or 700x44
- Pirelli cinturato gravel H 700x40 and/or 700x45
Any similar tyre thread upwards of 40mm in 700c flavour?
- WTB Byway 700x40 and/or 700x44
Oooh, tasty. Bit steep for skidding through mind.
I had a pair before in the 30something flavour and it was great.
