  • Hearing good things about the project to port Ubuntu to M1 architecture. Might be a year or so before it is stable enough to rely on but being able to sidestep Mac OS is going to be a big deal for a lot of users.

  • It's an intel one. I only want to drive two screens, I'm just not sure if I can do that through separate USB-C ports (using two USB-C to HDMI adapters) or if it all has to go through one port (using one USB-C to dual HDMI adapter)

  • You can; each port can function in DisplayPort Alt Mode independently. Just make sure you use dongles that support the max resolution you require (not all support HDMI 2.0/4K60).

  • Meh, I'll be getting an 8GB M1 Macbook Air. Can't see any point going for 16GB for my expected use (iPhone App development).

  • With the £200 saved you can just upgrade it a few years earlier and get the performance bump that way

  • I'd encourage you to reconsider

  • Agree. I keep my MBPs for 4-5 years. £200
to double the ram is peanuts over that time

  • Did you get sort this? I just bought a Wacom Intuos Pro S, and fuck me it loves to play silly buggers. When it works the touch mode decides not to work. Constantly restarting.

  • Lens fell out of my wife’s MacBook Air. Camera works fine, but is this a common problem and is there an easy way of replacing it?

She’s taped some clear plastic over it in the mean time. Not sure if she still had the lens/cover that fell out.

  • I still haven't really got to the bottom of it, there's intermittent crashing problems that I think are being caused by having non Apple hardware connected. Maybe the Intuos maybe when the Keychron is connected and charging. It's only since Big Sur update though, Wacom and everything else worked smoothly for ages before that.

  • Seems to happen every time with a big Apple update. It's like their developers never get the memo about the beta software.

I'm tempted by the new Mac Mini, I wonder if it'll play ball with the M1 chip.

  • I’ve got 4 x 1gb ddr3 ram modules for free if they’re of any use to anyone?

Came out of my 2010 Mac Pro - would rather not bin them I’d possible

  • I know we're off-thread but I thought I'd update on my 5G phone hotspot issue from last week. I spent the day using a 5G phone as my work connection. Spent the whole day speaking with students over Blackboard Collaborate, so a decent test of it. Used up 17gb of data in the day.

The connection was quick enough but it dropped out for 2-3 minutes about 4 or 5 times so that was a ballache. I was getting around 80mbps download and 20mbps upload, so not exactly blisteringly quick and not significantly quicker tham my 4G iPhone gets in the same spot.

I'm going to send it back to Virgin and give a 4G router from Three a go and if that's in the same sort of region speed wise but is more stable I'll go with that as it's only £11 a month.

  • Probably preaching to the choir here but that magic trackpad is fucking amazing.

There are some things a mouse would be better for but all in all I'm super happy, my wrist likes it a lot more, scrolling, gestures etc. work perfectly - and when it said the battery is low yesterday I realized that I had just been using the thing for a full month for multiple hours daily without charging it so that's pretty cool as well.

  • Has anyone got the tethered shooting plugin for Lightroom on a Mac? The Fuji website links to the windows .exe file for both the Windows and Mac links.

  • Do you need a plugin? Is the camera not supported natively by LR?

  • I couldn't get it to recognise my X-T2 at all, so thought I needed the plugin. It's got the latest firmware installed.

  • Thanks.

It's a shame Fuji don't do a free app with easy remote shooting, live view etc like Canon does. Canon's app isn't perfect but it works and it's free.

  • Fuji does an app for remote shooting and file transfer. Never got it working properly though

    The rating is fair

  • I'd recommend switching to Capture One. I did a year ago and haven't looked back, better editing and tethering. It's so much better. In fact, I've just bought Affinity for £24 so I own both outright for the same price as a years Adobe photo subscription, I'll be cancelling with Adobe ASAP.

  • I'm going to sell my pimped up 16" Macbook Pro with Applecare. Before I stick it on the bay, any interest here?

  • I get the full Adobe subscription for free though via a uni I teach at. And I only really need the remote shooting with live view once every couple months when I'm shooting new projects I want to document, so £14 a month for that is a bit more than I'd like to spend. I can probably just muddle through with the current setup. I got things working with Fuji Acquire and wifi transfer. It just would have been nice to have lined up the shots on a 4k monitor rather than the camera's screen.

  • where were you two months ago?
