  • I've cancelled my AOC order and have got a CRG9 arriving tomorrow.

I'd still probably prefer the AOC but it's only in stock at Box / Laptopsdirect (same company) and they're complete scammers. Had my order since last Thursday (including guaranteed next day delivery cost) and it's still not shipped. Plenty of other people saying the same thing for products they've bought recently. I bought a £3k TV from them which arrived next day, last year, but clearly they're having major issues with supply chain at the moment which means they're just keeping peoples money.

Ordered through ao.com and it's coming first thing tomorrow.

Problem is, now I need a power delivery / display solution which means an extra cable AND a speaker setup which is more money spent and more desk real estate taken up.

  • Need to sit in a different postcode 🤣

What I actually need to do is modify my gas arm with an angle grinder, over the weekend, to stop it from tipping forward with the weight of this thing and give me some better set back.

  • Is your gas arm strong enough? Most of the stuff I read said there weren't many arms which were strong enough not to droop over time.

  • I need one of these to be part of my life.

  • When I tried to fit it this morning, it was actually lifting the monitor up a bit at the highest tension so definitely strong enough.

What it can't do is torque the tilt mechanism high enough to be able to keep the monitor facing forward. It just droops down. I'm actually going to remove the tilt part of the monitors stand and jerry rig it to the gas arm with a bit of angle grinding to get it to fit. That should mean I can use the gas arm rather than the massive stand.

  • this is top.

  • What arm have you got? Interested to see how you get on, all the reviews say that the only arm strong enough out of the box to counteract the front weighting issue is the Ergotron HX, and even they have had to produce a special add on to make it work, but that is crazy money.

  • This one.

Basically, what I've done is remove the swivel bracket (marked with red cross) and I need to cut a bit out of the arm (marked - circular bit behind the bit that connects to the monitor) and replace it with the bit connected to the monitor stand.

I'll let you know how I get on.

  • Ah I see, so you are in effect removing all swivel functionality? makes sense if you can still adjust it to the right angles anyway

  • is this powered with an m1? i'm appalled.

  • Yup - M1 MBP with USB C to DP 1.4 cable.

  • No - it'll still swivel, that's why I'm cutting out the slot. I'll take some pics when I do it over the weekend.

  • Sorry mis read your initial message. So you are borrowing the swivel mechanism that the monitor came with? Are you using the wall mount bit it came with?

  • I'm basically doing what this guy did.

Need to cut a slot to make the connection but the same otherwise...

  • Do all G9 owners have silly little keyboards just to make the screen look even bigger?

  • Yes - it actually comes in the box.

  • No your a sicko

  • Bit OT but can't find a relevant thread.

My password manger (Lastpass) have decided to put their service behind a paywall. Anyone got an alternative to recommend?

  • That was pretty much the last free version (unless you want to hand over password management to Chrome or to Apple).

Things like Bitwarden exist but I have trust issues.

I've paid for Lastpass for a few years now so nothing changes for me.

  • unless you want to hand over password management to Chrome

Chrome password manager works very well and is very secure. I highly recommend it if you only use Chrome.

  • I used it for ages but Chrome is a total piece of shit.

Safari is so much nicer to use (especially on a new M1 Mac). Lastpass integration is also very good so that's easier for me.

^ For the privacy nerds about, there are some concerns about trackers in Lastpass Android at the moment. Not that I'm suggesting Google don't track what you are doing in Chrome, more that there are no perfect solutions and better the enemy you know...

Each to their own. I can't stand Safari for exactly the same reasons.

What are your issues with Bitwarden (I use it and hadn't heard of anything).

@skinny there was some recent discussion in the Encrypt all the things thread https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/205836/
