I just don't have much truck with 'originality pedants'. IMHO the owner is at liberty to have it painted in whatever colour he sees fit. How are we to even know why it was repainted - someone might have stromo'ed it?
As for the downtube shifter bosses, I'd suggest that (a) they are easily replaced by a frame builder (b) removal undoubtedly improves the lines of a bike (c) wouldn't be fitted if Merckx were manufacturing the bike today (they'd use headtube adjusters instead).
Personally I'd have downtube shifter bosses removed from anything that needed repainting nowadays - headtube mountered adjusters are much more appropriate for STI shifting. I don't take it upon myself to point and laugh at those who chose to retain them though, I just accept it as their choice.
I'd be more concerned if someone punched a load of holes in the tubes to route Di2 (we all have limits to what we find acceptable).
