From what I can tell necessary travel seems to be a requirement. Although this obviously isn't
I think the question isn't 'how' but 'should I'. All the restrictions are there for a reason. Apologies for being blunt but stuff like this is only going to prolong the very unappealing situation we find ourselves in.
I say all this as someone in a similar situation. Live in NL, bought a bike from here in August, seller dropped it at my parents house in Manchester. Now have to wait until it can be brought over in person to avoid import duties.
Advice needed guys:
I found a bike in the UK which I would love to buy. Unfortunately I am located in The Netherlands and the bike is pick up only. The seller is located near the ferry terminal of Newhaven. So I am considering taking the ferry from Dieppe, France to Newhaven. As far as I am aware I can travel through Belgium as long as I don't stay longer than 48 hours. France appears to be more difficult. From what I can find online I can enter France and leave it to the UK, but I am unclear what it takes to get back in again. To enter the UK you need a Covid test. To get back into France too, but I am sure these can be the same ones. From what I read online you can't travel freely in the UK right now. That said, I suppose I could persuade the seller to bring the bike to the ferry.
From what I can tell necessary travel seems to be a requirement. Although this obviously isn't, I wonder if there isn't a loophole through this. Or if anyone is actually going to check this. I could register a transport company just for the sake of buying the bike, but I am also hoping to avoid customs duties. That is why I would ideally like to pick up the bike and drive it across the pond. If anyone asks, I can just tell them I am traveling by bike. I suppose I could even bring a cheap bike to the UK and ditch/sell it, to avoid questions why I didn't bring a bike along to the UK in the first place.
To sum it up, this seems like a stupid/crazy idea, but also something of a challenge :)
