He’s a bellend of course - but I’ll be honest , there but for the grace of god go I. I think most people have been doing some sort of exercise? I certainly have. It just looks worse cos he’s... well cos he’s him.

Jogging, or any exercise, is one thing but anyone who goes out jogging in the morning after a night of sub-zero temperatures and falls over can hardly think, well, who would have expected that? It's the weather presenters I feel sorry for, they spend all that time warning of icy surfaces and the need for caution, well beyond their remit really and not something you'd think most people would even need warning about and what happens?

Hunt will probably blame his local authority for not gritting the pavements.
-

@ WillMelling he was clearly doing his jogging wrong. Any competent jogger would know not to lean.

They're going to build a tunnel from Scotland to Ireland:
Narrator: they were not going to build a tunnel from Scotland to Ireland

It’s far more feasible than a bridge that kept failing.

I reckon it's the deputy mayor, who clearly faked a break-in at his own house, and it's always the most innocent-seeming person, anyway. :)
Most of the inhabitants keep their money at home, as the island’s only bank closed last year. That the CCTV camera in the square is broken is proving to be another stumbling block in the investigation.

In the most recent incident the thieves deactivated the CCTV camera in a tobacco shop before taking €60,000 (£52,000) from the safe.
A baccy shop on an island with 400 inhabitants has £52k in the safe? On the insurance claim form maybe...

The plot thickens ... :)

No bank on the island. You have to stash your cash.

I reckon it's a way to get the Island into the press... looks pretty nice from photos.
As for having to keep 60k in the safe, they're obviously more trusting than me, Livorno is a ferry ride away, I'd have been on it pretty sharpish.

Someone should propose a debate at the Oxford Union along the lines of 'Captain Tom was not a hero' and see how they like free speech then.
-
• #63365
Like a lot of Tory policy, if what they said "Protect free speech" was what they actually mean, it probably wouldn't be too bad. However what they mean is "Protect people who have very wrong opinions from having their platform removed".
I do think there's some question around when a speaker is invited to talk at a university to people who are aware of that person's views who is subsequently disinvited because other people don't like the speaker. In some cases, difference of opinion is worth listening to, in other cases obviously the other opinion is abhorrent or just stupid so it's normal to not have to listen.

people who have very wrong opinions
That's statement there is pretty much the crux of it.
it's normal to not have to listen
I can't think of a situation on a uni campus where anyone has to listen.

True. Badly expressed. I mean "normal to not have to host people like that and give credence, no matter how slight, to their stupidity"

Every time I see that David Frost is negotiating for the UK I think of the chat show host who seemed to be able to get anyone to give up their secrets and think maybe it could work. Then I remember he's been dead the best part of a decade and wonder if a dead man could do better than his namesake.

I think the way for students to go is to talk about the stuff that is sensitive to the University Industry; huge pay disparity between the teaching staff and senior management, corporate interests, unsavoury investments which alumni turned out to be terrorists or nonces.
See how long it is before the deplatforming appears -

I love the idea of this, hopefully town planners are coming to realise the post-war high streets are shit.
Ex-health is appropriate.
