he seems physiologically suited to three week GTs too

Ganna dropping that break was fun to watch.

Monster power. He should go well tomorrow too in the TT.

Who’s broadcasting EdBesseges?
-
• #30681
Only French or Belgian broadcasters I think, I'm using Tiz Cycling.
Paying for a GCN and Eurosport sub so not feeling too guilty.

close rn in the women's trofee veldrijden as it goes into the last lap

That was a great race. I love snowy races anyway, but that was one hell of a last lap shoot out.

Bettiol has had a Betancur winter?

Jake Stewart finishing just off the podium at Étoile de Bèsseges.
Pretty impressive in his first year in the WT. Hopefully he’ll develop into a solid classics rider.
Edit: Ethan Hayter this on the stage too.
I don’t want to sound too ‘c’mon Tim’ but it’s remarkable to see so many British riders coming off the conveyor belt when that was unthinkable 20 years ago.

Great ride by Ethan Hayter to come second behind Ganna. My CTO at work knows his mother and have heard that Hayter's younger brother is as equally if not more impressive on the bike. Be good to see them develop in the next few years.

Pidcock has posted on Instagram that he’s run a 13.25 5km. Ludicrously quick.

"That's the fourth fastest 5k by a Brit in the last two years and one of the top 100ish fastest times globally in the last 2 years"
dodgy gps me thinks
-
• #30689
13.25 is rapid - he looks like he's cantering in the vid
-
• #30690
If it’s true it’s astounding but if it’s not it’s an interesting window into how arrogant / self confident he is that he thinks he can accidentally run a 5k that’s 40 seconds slower than mo farah’s 5k track pb. Guess that’s what you need to become world class
-
• #30691
Hows the view from up on the fence?!
-
• #30692
The data is all over the place so it’s definitely not. Think it’s more that he’s just not aware of running, don’t think he knows or cares about European record times just went for a jog and his mate said it was quick 🤷♂️

Sorry. I’m an Iserbyt fan

You have my sympathy.

Genuine question, if a super fit athlete who runs as part of his discipline gets within 50s is a world record, is that totally unrealistic? I assume shaving another 50s is the ‘hard bit’ relatively speaking.
Didn’t Alistair Brownlee run 97 secs slower for 10k than Mo Farah during a triathlon? -
• #30696
On a power to weight basis, Pidcock can’t be far off the very top of any athlete in any field.
His aerobic system is probably as good or better than Mo Farahs.
Other than technique maybe, I would expect him to be a ridiculously fast runner based on his build.
I imagine Mo Farah would be pretty handy in a 15 minute hill climb up a mountain with a little bike training... -
• #30697
on the remake of superstars from a few years ago, mo farah looked hilarious on a bike. to be fair it was a mountain bike that was too big for him and the seat was a good six inches too low.

I have no doubt that Pidcock could run an astonishingly fast 5k by lay standards but I’d be very surprised if 13:25 was real. If you said a short 15/ long 14 then maybe, but I don’t think there is anyone in the uk, even elite runners who can do that sort of time without specifically targeting it, let alone doing it by accident round a local park.
Insta says he’s going to verify it so good luck to him. I’d be very surprised if he can do it over verified distance, but I’d like to be shown wrong.

will be funny when he recalibrates his gps and posts a 25

Very much this, he uploaded it to Strava...

Sure you ran 5k bud
Undoubtedly going to be very very quick mind

Yes, I remember hearing/reading that somewhere. I really hope that’s a sign of future success. Was that an average across the whole grand tour, for a single day or a climb?
