First draft from Marino. I gave them the totally wrong fork a-c measurement (it’s 552mm actually) and I’ve decided against sliding dropouts so that’s going to be corrected.

Specced clearance for 29x2.6”, ordered forks, hubs and rims so far. Waiting time for the frame is “at least 10-14 weeks” so I’ve lots of time to think about the rest of it. Any input is appreciated!

670ETT makes you a pretty tall person. I'd go with a bit longer chainstays to balance the bike. Or keep the sliders and make the most of adjustable geometry.
My new frame will be very similar to yours: 535 reach, 672 ETT, but 450 chainstays. -

Good idea, I’ve asked them to lengthen the chainstays as the dropouts will be fixed. I’m 188 cm/about 6’2”. Not sure about all that reach, it’s longer than my current frame but it’s shorter than the recommended frame size for my height for both the pole and the pipedream above. 🤷🏻♂️

460 seattube will leave tons of seatpost exposed. How long of a dropper will you run on it?

Eeehhh... Idk. But I see what you mean. Will have a look at this! Thanks.

How much travel on the forks?
-
• #384
160 mm. It's a RS Lyrik

Forks are soooo god damn expensive.
Looks nice

My new frame
How did I not press you on this already! What are you getting?

expensive
I know! It's ridiculous. And they all look the same but some are apparently different &/or better. At least this one was 40% off.

I am on Rebas, which are fine for my need, but they are only 100mm and I want more (aesthetically)

Wow, they look really good! And the steel version as well. Never heard of the company. Please post some updates when you get it/build it.

I only found them cos of Pinkbike infomercial. Looks like they use Waltly for their Ti frames.
It should be here by end of March. Just in time for summer. -

Colour wise I’m undecided. Either plain yellow or a combo of these three, front to back.

Metallic black cherry. It'll make your bike faster.

Shimano appear to have upped their game since I last built a wheel with their hubs. These feel really fancy.

Yes, and they are actually (nearly) silent at speed , the freehub disengages.
It can be a bit weird when the hub engages/disengages when you go over bumps in the road, but even with the racket on, the sound is not very loud. The sound in this video is exaggerated

A good review from you is high praise. Feels good. Ordering spokes later today when I've measured everything properly.

Spokes, nipples, valves, tyres, tubeless tape and a pair of rotors are on their way and stumbled across some 4-pot XT brakes on offer so threw them in too.
Seems all shops have low or no stock of various components so I’m hoarding when I can.
Marino are also being super slow to respond, nudging email sent yesterday. Not surprised but still irritating as I’m itching to start getting this ready for spring. Which seems a long way away atm, -15 degrees here.

V2. Any geometrical feedback from the hive mind?

Oh and they won’t do straight lines, only powdercoat fades which judging by a few examples on their insta won’t look too good. So single paint it is, just have to decide which.

Nice! Really love a Marino bike!
Long time no post. The mtb thing has turned out to be most enjoyable and I’ve not done any bike tinkering since April 2020, what with working in covid ICU day and night. As this pandemic “all work and no play” is the new normal for me I’ve saved up some money and decided to build myself a modern hardtail mtb to cheer me up. After a lot of research I’ve gone for a Peruvian special ie a Marino and am negotiating the design as I write. It’s inspired by the pole Taival:
and the pipedream Moxie:
