• Well if you don't get on with it, get rid. Personally I feel that all collections should have a Submariner and a Speedmaster as they're such classics, but no point owning a watch you don't want to wear.

  • Completely agree that a Submariner and a Speedmaster are absolute classics, maybe equivalent to a Gios Torino Super Recird and a Saronni 1982 Goodwood Colnago Master.

But there are others who could easily enter that conversation - a Ti-Raleigh, a Mapei era Colnago, a Motorola Merckx Corsa Extra, a C
celeste steel Bianchi - so is it the same with watches?

(With mountain bikes, the comparators are perhaps RC100, Yo Eddy in grello and a Dolomite Attitude)

So, what apart from a Submariner and a Speedmaster would be added to the “stone cold classics” conversation?

  • Patek Calatrava, Datejust, Nautilus, Royal Oak, Reverso, Cartier Tank, Santos, GMT-Master, Explorer, Fifty Fathoms, Autavia, Portugieser, Seiko 6105, Pogue, El Primero, Casio DW-5000C...

  • I have a first gen Dolomite Attitude, which was repainted by Klein in Sea and Sky, which was never available on the first bikes (debossed decals as well if that means anything to you).

I’d love an RC100, not sure how it would compare to my RC529 and RC295, but that’s not really the point.

But I take your point- this could go on and on.

Trimble boom frame, Zinn 753, Doug Bradbury Answer/Manitou, Marin Team Titanium, etc etc.
