  • Thinking about getting some binoculars, any recommendations?

  • What's your budget? Nikon prostaff 3s are pretty good. I've also heard the RSPB puffins are really good, on a cheaper budget.

  • Probably could go up to £150

  • Got some goldfinches in the garden this morning

  • I had a lunchtime walk today, knowing that the weather won’t be so good for a while. Lots out there, mostly a bit too far away to get any decent photos. The larks were amazing - about 100 of them rampaging around the field.

  • The redwing and the fieldfare together are great!

Currently we have a flock of about 20 redwings roosting in the tree at the end of our garden and rinsing the berries on a neighbour's holly. Hoping they will still be here for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend.

  • Series of Swan stills from a longer fisheye timelapse I made earlier.

More exciting but not pictured was fight between grey & pied wagtail by river, great crested grebe & a siskin which I was about to photograph when two dog walkers barged past disturbing everything.

  • Long-tail Tits on our fatballs today after I'd noticed them visit at a similar time yesterday. I set it at 5s timelapse and had motion sensor for video but the latter didn't activate at all today. Really happy to have captured these shots.

  • Fantastic.

  • I saw a little grebe earlier. Couldn't swim fast enough to make headway against the current on the local river (lots of rain recently) but no trouble diving and coming up with food. They must be really strong swimmers once they are under water!

  • I love this thread. Think I’m going to invest in some binoculars too.

  • I got these ones in the end, pretty pleased with them. Nice and compact.

  • Re: binoculars, I need to take mine out, perpetually forget them.

    On the water today saw:

    Tufted Duck
    Great Crested Grebe
    Cormorant
    Heron
    Goosander/ Red Breasted Merganser

' Best' image attached from a pretty sorry bunch is a screen grab from a short video clip of a tufted duck.

  • There's a big tufted duck crew in Burgess Park and one pochard who hangs out with them

  • Not seen Pochard for years we used to get them when I first moved here.

This awful zoom pic is a pair of divers that looked different to everything else, I couldn't figure out what they were... closest could be Common Goldeneye maybe?
