2" tires, 50cm handlebars and a flannel shirt it's the bare minimum for gravel rides. Anything less than that is a road bike

i think it's fun that bikepacking is getting outside attention from non cycling blogs, but "boutique guided cycling tours" probably has the same impact as "10k ebikes" in getting people into cycling
IE, bored middleclass/ retired people with deep pockets looking for something through consumption, use it twice and then expect to sell it for RRP in 9 months for a flight to the Maldives, where they might rent an ebike 1 day out of their 14 spent with a jeep (the condenast demo).
there are a lot of good groups/ people working to make cycling more accessible, both through access to the equipment, offering their time to help build confidence in novice riders, or simply making information more available.
painting guided cycling tours as anything more than a paid holiday is v mmmmmm, even without touching on the local environment impact these operations usually bring (in more rural areas).

Its 2021 pal. If it's in the global north and involves a car it's unsustainable.

I have no idea why I consistently follow this thread, I dislike actual gravel bikes and they make me angry. Maybe I just love to hate'em.

the impact of mass/ guided tourism to increasingly rural/ underserved environments, in regards to soil erosion and resource pressures, as well as changing the socio economic make up of the economy is pretty well documented. both here in the uk, and aboard. worth looking into if you're interested.

it's the perfectly constructed "sincere but possible a self aware meme" discourse which keeps you coming back

I wanted to see it again. Couldnt find it in the thread. Forgot who posted it. Did you change your name? Cant recall it was yours. I thought Jingle_jangle for a sec...
Orange tripster, aero bars, guards, 38mm gk slicks. Safety pizza. Carradice bag.
Last seen when handle bars were discussed.
Anyway. Wanted to ask some questions on mudguards..
This is due to the fact that I canr figure out the search function on mobile. And i never fund myself at a computer these days.

Crappy blurry picture, but what it looks like at the moment. Changed to some black velo orange 650b mudguards that I've reshaped to fit 700 wheels. Think they look better on the bike than the silver ones. And no need for the bag at the moment in lockdown.
And yes not helped by changing my name, previous one was stupid, this one is closer to my actual name.

You're probably right, or the other theory I have is that it serves like the Anti-porn thread. How can I know what is right unless I already know what is wrong? Plus the 'point-and-laugh' value.

If he’s after the breakaway does he want it to.. break away?
Midnight special isn’t available (in 54 anyway) until March/ April. It’s 750-800, ( plus whatever for the carbon forks). I’m waiting for that to replace my sequoia. I want something more classic looking and I’m interested in a more road bike feel. The sequoia is pretty smooth feeling but not light.
Specialized sequoia is discontinued.

This is what you're here for as in the antiporn/point-and-laugh/love-to-hate content you mentioned above? Happy to be of service ;)
Why on earth buy a slow bike with 12 mounting bosses and a 42tooth cassette only to have someone drive your gear behind you?
Do it properly and on a 17lb carbon CX bike with 36mm Dugast tubs and have a domestique to bring you water bottles.
