Working at Woodrups I can assure you there will be some good news about the Bob Jackson operation coming. In terms of their prices, as explained previously by myself in this thread, the prices were too low and they were only able to offset their losses on frames and paint with the rent from the retail units below. Once the retail unit revenue was removed from the equation (with the sale of the building), without a massive restructure; it was game over for Bob Jackson as we all know it.
It has been a rollercoaster couple of months for sure but I think how things have ended up is the best it could have been... we’ll leave the tastefully painted “classic pro team” carbon frames to px.

Will there be an eBike?

Will you be putting a deposit down?

Hey, if you work at Woodrups, is there still a Hasan who works there?
-
• #156
There’s no hasan at Woodrups currently and I’ve not heard that name mentioned, why do you ask?
-
• #157
Ah cool, didn't realise you work at woodrups!
Indeed their pricing was way off for too long. It's hard to understand why they didn't increase prices. Maybe a reluctance from the owners to be seen as being greedy or whatever.I think how things have ended up is the best it could have been...
Yeah theres no arguing this is the best outcome for BJ. Probably no one else better placed than Woodrups to do it. Will be interesting to see what direction it takes.

I knew a kid who moved from Cambridge (Massachusetts) 16/17 years ago who was going to work for Woodrup.

got some new managing director in who knows what they are doing and got that palacexbobjackson colab sorted
Ha! I would say they’re a bit more Rohan than Palace. (Rohan is my jam btw. Not dissing at all!)

Rohan
😂 Totally
Maybe is because I'm not a 19 year old skater but I cringe when I even see the palace logo

The Comic (as Jackson/Woodrup owners must call Cycling Weekly) has some more details:

^ The idea of off-the-peg UK made frames is actually quite uncommon. They’re wise to keep that.
Love the forward-looking attitude.

Nice, looks like I'll be able to get my Bob Jackson disc bike after all.
As Miro says, great to keep some uk made frames going

Great news.. looks like they have decent plan in hand and heading down a road that is sustainable with Apprentices and investment.
I hope they stay reasonable price and updated models with some new designs. -

Hi TM, do you know what will happen to the framebuilders who worked at BJ? Just trying to make sense of what transpired. At one point the plan seemed to be to continue at BJ with the same staff but then there was an abrupt change of plan because the new manager didn't show up?

The idea of off-the-peg UK made frames
Its the only viable way IMO.
The customers who want 'custom' are absolute fuckwits who cant make their minds up.
Just look at me, JB or scoble. -

Thats why I love this:

Mint to hear Woodrup have sorted it all out, been a rollercoaster few months. There's definitely a place for a well priced off-the-peg UK made frameset, with a few tweaks to bring them a bit more up to date I reckon they'll do great. If they ever need a machinist / engineer I'll be keeping an eye out!

That’s really nice. Small, but nice.
Bikes are pretty versatile now. BJ could have something like this in with a wide choice colours and eyelets and sell plenty.

That bike has everything I normally dislike aesthetically in bikes; slanted top tube, phat head tube, thicc fork, chunky stack of a cassette, disc brakes, etc.
But somehow, I am really digging the look of it!P.S. nice Bappi Lahiri avatar! His music was 33.3333% of the soundtrack to my childhood.

Am I the only one who thought that was Dan Aykroyd at first glance?
-
• #173
Haha. Bappi, aka Indian Dan Aykroyd, aka Gosht Buster.
This was the jam when I was but a wee babber:

I very nearly ordered a BJ before Christmas. Bit sad I didn't, although it seems that the order would probably have been cancelled. Anyone know when they'll be back open for orders?
Oh yeah big time, way too cheap for what you got. It's only now I regret not buying one.
Prediction - some real BJ second hand frameset asking prices will start approaching the price of a new woodrups made BJ frame... Maybe
