  • I've now got 30mm tyres under the same guards and they do look a little sad

  • I think it will be fine from what you’ve said and I would absolutely recommend threadlock + low-ish torque :)

  • What do you reckon the likelihood of them fitting some 38mm 650b tyres are? I'm looking for some guards for my partners replacement Isen and as she's small it's 650b wheels or nothing on it. We used some 650b GB guards on her last frame but are keen to explore cheaper alternatives.

  • I found mine a fair bit of work to fit 650b, got there in the end though.
    I'm probably going to get another set and am thinking of trying the reradiusing discussed upthread

    Really curious as to how this goes as I was looking at similar forks.

  • Instead of tapping it could you use a small bolt to pass through the hole? Bolt head facing into the centre of the fork? Is the steerer aluminium? In any case you could use a carbon expander bung (for carbon forks) to save having to modify the star nut? I assume you don’t want the mounts to be fixed via the quick release skewer/wheel axle?

  • I hadn't seen these, just ordered some for my Datum. I actually don't really like the look of PDW, and the Kinesis ones look good but have too much in the way of graphics for my liking.

  • The styling is a little hipster, but these look to be good value as you say... Any idea how they look on narrower tyres? (a Photos search suggest they’re quite roomy)

    I'd say questionable... They'd be too wide for my 700c Isen and need some shaping to clear the seat stays. If the stays from your old GB guards are still good the replacement guards themselves are more affordable.

  • Sadly the stays were knackered in the crash.

  • Anyone got a good bodge to adding a bridge for mudguards? Is it going to have to be two P clips and a length between with a hole drilled out?

    Or is it just time to accept i might get a bit mucky on at least one of my bikes....

  • How much clearance do you need between the mount hole and the tyre?

  • Ended up making a makeshift bridge from an old Wald basket support. Not the prettiest, but will do for now.

  • this is basically how the ibis hakka mx fender bride thing works. maybe one of them would work if you could get ahold of one?

  • Ah cool. I might look into that in the future if this bodge ever plays up.

    P.s, If anyone's interested, a section of wald basket support also works as a fender flute at the front. (I just needed a cut out 2 hole sections).

  • OK so I ordered some really shit mudguards, hate them and the rear stays won’t reach where I need em. Back to drawing board. Shoulda got those big flat ones ^. They’re 70mm wide I think?

  • Ah fuckit I’ve fitted a cheapo MTB front flap thing as a BB splash guard, it’s a beautiful bodge, think I’m going to settle for just getting wet & muddy and enjoy that.

  • Does anyone know a UK stockist of these Bibia Classic mudflaps? SJS sells a touring version, but can’t seem to find this particular model anywhere.

  • It's a frame issue, rather than brake I think but....can anyone recommend caliper brakes with a high arch for mudguard clearance.

    I've only got 25c tyres with 30mm PDW's and I've barely and room with condor deep drops (the frame doesn't actually need a deep drop brake).

    Easiest thing might be switching back to blumels which weirdly worked better despite being bigger than the PDWs.
