  • I have a flat mount disc fork, & I would like to use a cross top hydraulic setup. I'm not really familiar with MTB stuff...
I'm happy to spend in the realms of £100. can anyone point me in the right direction?

  • Would it make sense to drill a drain hole into the BB shell to allow water to dry/drain our would a drain hole make it even worse?

    If it’s steel I think that’s alright.

I had a track frame with no drainage holes. Rather than drill I took the seatpost out every few days to allow evaporation. And tipped water out after really wet rides (if you can get half a pint out, you know it’s been an adventure).

  • (if you can get half a pint out, you know it’s been an adventure)

The T3 collects about that much if it tips down during a TT. The BB shell is sleeved through, so the bearings are safe, but you have to take the fork out to pour the water out of the downtube 🤷‍♀️

  • If you find a bunch of T3s at a wet event you can play a tune.

  • Thanks @GideonPARANOID

@miro_o its a specialized allez sprint, ie alloy frame

The seat tube work around makes sense but on this frame to tighten the carbon seatpost with the 2-screw seat post collar is a real pain in the (...) so i would want to avoid this if possible

I am just not sure whether a drain hole leads to even more water down there or if the benefit of air circulation would prevail 🤔

  • Yewssaass gawd that is lovely...

    Dibs 🤭

  • Thanks 🙏🏼 You can have the gorilla 😂

  • Honestly don’t think I am gorilla enough for it

  • New year, new frame. I got this Russian TI Van Tuyl frame on Marktplaats for a reasonable price and I‘m swapping over the parts from my MGOF Diamond Back Axis. I really like how the XTR hubs match the frame colour :) Although I‘m generally a fan of colourfully anodized parts, I decided to go for a colour-less build on this one. The blue headset that came with the frame will therefore be replaced with a slightly scratched up silver CK headset I got for a good price.

  • I have one of these nice Zoom light weight seat posts in a 26.4mm but want to use it on a a 27.2mm seat tube and I cant find a shim anywhere....

    Coke can shim itll be?

    Help

  • Coke can shim itll be?

0.4mm is 4 layers of coke can or one piece of this: https://www.balsacabin.co.uk/product/016-aluminium-sheet-4-x-10ins/ (or 0.016" aluminium, brass, tinned steel or copper from the model shop of your choice, there's no compelling reason to pick one over another)
    I know which I'd prefer 🙂

  • Make my own Shim, why didnt I think of this myself.

Thanks for coming to the rescue.

  • I know which I'd prefer 🙂

    The right size seatpost?

  • The right size seatpost?

Well, there's always that, but it can be pretty hard to find a 27.2mm seat post 😉

  • can you find me one of these in a 27.2 please :)

  • If you're not fussed about the different logo:

    https://www.ebay.de/itm/264021166333

  • has someone told you about brexit?

  • Also €50 and Brexit

    Or

£5 on materials and make a shim myself.

  • returns to lurking

  • I am just not sure whether a drain hole leads to even more water down there or if the benefit of air circulation would prevail

The latter I believe. Water always gets in, it's only really a problem if it's trapped I think.

I definitely wouldn't drill a high end alloy frame though without talking to Spesh first. I'd try and talk to someone who knows specifically that model of bike.

  • How long do you need it to be? I have two, but one is pretty short and the long one I probably need myself.
