  • We watched this a bit ago after I skim read Mark Kermode's review; "empowering, uplifting, East London, crowd-pleasing" etc.

    Should probably have given the review a bit more attention though, it's a bleak/depressing watch in places and properly spooked my wife out as we played spot the local neighbourhood, having earlier spoken about where we want our child to go to school/grow up...

  • Ah that's a shame. My partner and i actually thought the school scenes showed a well constructed balance of different backgrounds and avoided (to use a 40 year old version quote) "poverty porn". For me the grimness was centred around one families very dire circumstances but wasn't a reflection on the general situation.
