  • Cool, let us know how it goes.

  • I did a 5km tt today off the back of a lot of running, including getting carried away on my warm-up wandering.

    First short & fast effort since I "raced" early March '20 when still suffering from after effects of January '20 chesty cough viral type of illness.

    Just under 21 mins result. A long way off pre 2020 levels, but at least I now know where I'm at right now and my insoles are preventing the foot pain still.

    Gentle couple of weeks starting with a short recovery run tomorrow as this has been a lot for me.

  • Wasn’t expecting to do a PB tonight but something went right. Must have been the pork scratchings and cheese burek from lunch.

  • I've both an reckon that's defo doable. The pegasus' are noticeabley quicker and easier to run at a faster clip in

  • Lovely out there this morning. I’m nursing middle aged tweaks and have never been a great runner but I got lost on purpose today. I’ve set myself the goal of doing a 10k before jan ends and accidentally did 9.6 today without looking at my phone. Dammit!

  • I've got a dodgy ear - it feels blocked up with something and I've lost most of the hearing in it.

    No dizziness or any other symptoms - is there any reason I shouldn't go for a run?

  • I don’t think it will do any harm - have you put olive oil drops in? Etc

  • As a kid my mum would just plug my ear with an olive oil dipped cotton wool ball and send me off... As an adult I'd probably do the same. #ObviouslyNotADoctor

  • They have a bit of stability so the idea (and marketing hype) is that there's less chance of getting injured. But I'm not sure it's as black and white as that unfortunately!

  • They basically force you to run at a comfortable pace anyway, just by the width of the sole and the rocker shape - I’ve found them to be excellent as an everyday running shoe. They’ve been my only pair since April.

    Feels like the react foam can do fast if you give it the beans but again, width/shape of the soles and the weight aren’t really geared for sprinting.

    Also, I PROPERLY injured myself wearing them in October but more my fault than the shoe.

  • All this ‘fast shoe’ talk is giving me fomo.. but my current ailments seem a lot like achilles tendinitis so slow and steady seems to be my only option for the time being. I managed a plodded 10km last night in slush, ice and oncoming traffic and cursed every last minute.

  • I haven't got any but I'm planning to get some later today. Life has got in the way and it looks like I'm not going to get out before this evening anyway so I'll see how it is feeling by then.

  • Thanks (and to @birofunk ) . I’m never going to be fast anyway so comfortable miles are my desire. To go out, get the road under me for an hour or two and not feel regret later would be ideal. So if those Infinity 2s do that then I might sniff out a pair when my Gel Kayanos have worn out.

  • Just got back from an unintentionally muddy 15 miles and decided my Cliftons needed a wash. Discovered that both shoes now have small rips separating the upper from the sole at the arch, which appears to be a clear sign I need a new pair. Runners Need might be the only place I can find that have the updated Clifton 7 in my size for under £100 (just), so I'm gonna give them a go.

    Ah well - 1,123 miles isn't too shabby!

    • edit - I must've got the last cheap pair, they've all gone now. Phew!
  • Getting a dropper will make it much easier if you can and do it lying down. If you pinch you the ear with thumb and index finger and sort of waggle it, it will help loosen the wax (if it’s dry). Not really running chat but I’ve suffered with blocked ears before

  • Can anyone confirm whether you can now stream Spotify from an Apple Watch while running and leave your iPhone at home?

  • Picked the flattest section available to me
    (Top of Sydenham hill to beluah hill and back) for an attempt at a "fast 10 km".
    I've been aiming for <45 this year.

    I did 45:45.
    Quite happy.

    This also pleases me as I'm still just 45.

  • Any tips for keeping a nice slow pace for those long aerobic runs? Seems a bit of a silly question but all too often find my self just pushing myself a little faster and suddenly Kms gone and the breathing is a fair bit harder! Really trying to build a solid base layer of fitness but too tempting to gun it harder.

    More self discipline perhaps?

    On the plus side some lovely miles today down the canal to lime house, the tow path by Victoria park was even semi tolerable!!

  • You could try focusing on breathing slowly?

    Three in, four out

    Or run with a young kid, who is riding a bike. Or a friend to chat to?

  • I think, was it @nefarious ?, who brought about the "just breath through your nose, no mouth breathing" for the long slow run. It works in keeping your pace steady.
