• Wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Going to build myself a 20" front wheel on a SD-8 Dynamo hub. I've built a few wheels before but nothing this small.

Would a standard 32/3x pattern be OK or would the small rim and large(ish) hub flange result in funky spoke angles. Would I be better off with a 1x or 2x pattern?

Had a look at a few BMX forums and they seem to build with 3x so I guess it shouldn't be a problem. Any advice appreciated!

  • 2x or 1x. Its a front wheel. 3x of daft.

  • We use 2x on pretty heavy duty cargo bikes and trailers (20” rim).

If it's a front wheel with rims brakes then it doesn't really matter. 3x would be a bit excessive on that size of rim, however, given it's only teeny. I'd be inclined to go for 2x, unless you're absolutely sure the hub flanges are properly beefy, in which case 1x or even radial lacing would be fine.
