Yea, he tried his best to ruin it. His accent was all over the place too...he's actually from Newcastle!?
-
• #17203
I think he's had to do so many accents over the years (while surpressing his Geordie) that it's given him that perma-international-school-boy ambiguous Western Hemisphere accent.

Guy Ritchie has fell off in the last couple years though, I don’t think he’s made a good film since rock n rolla and the bigger the budget the worse they seem to be

Aye honkin it was, early films he was in I thought he had potential but not if I see him in something I know it’s usually gonna be shut. Another one he’s in that’s a turkey is King Arthur!

A Star is Born
Completely shitacious. Mrs EB - total target audience - thought it was absolutely gopping. I hated every single minute, but then I'm in no way the target
One of the reviews summed it up at the time "Every single scene between them, was if they were meeting each other for the very first time"

Not much if i remember correctly, just pushed the she's rising he's falling narrative.
The beginning and end were the more stand out parts of the film for me (you made it to the end right?).

Nice, has a New Beverley cinema vibe which sadly, like many cinemas has closed.
-
• #17210
you made it to the end right?
only because i'd invested in an unlimited self-service popcorn deal (it was an outdoor screening - i shall check the small print about audience/toilet ratios next time).

but then I'm in no way the target
Not sure who the target for this was. My partner played games on her phone in protest to me putting it on and we both hated the Gaga doc on Netflix. Maybe not the masterpiece that the critics called it but for me it was a pretty good Sunday 6pm, beer and leftover curry Highway to Heaven replacement.

Only temporarily though. As long as Tarantino lives, and I'm sure long after, the New Bev will stay open. No reason for it to close so long as he owns it.

You are far more forgiving than I!

yeah but film plots are always pretty similar and when you get old enough like me you can pretty much guess what is going to happen and even what the next line is.
I mean Apocalypse Now (one of my all time favourites) in terms of the plot is basically The Wizard of Oz with more gunz

I found it. It wasn't black and white at all.
I was emailing the aforementioned DVD rental place to ask if they knew what it might be and in doing so, I was going to tell them: it looked like a French New Wave film. Which led me to see a picture of Jean-Luc Godard. That sparked a thought, which was he looked remarkably like the person I remember seeing in the trailer for the film. I went to his Wikipedia page and see that in 2017, a biographical film about Jean-Luc Godard was released.
Redoubtable.
I guess at the time I may have looked up Jean-Luc Godard, seen B&W photos of him and associated it with the film. There are also B&W shots in the trailer. Super stoked!

Jiu Jitsu
Trailer is far better than the film.
Nic Cage is barely in it (for better or for worse) -

Sorry to Bother You
Yeah quite enjoyed it. Fell down a little with the whole 'Capitalism' sub text, considering there was no consumption happening with that whole model in the film
Dennis and Lois was OK. Superfans known to all touring bands in NYC. Did merch for The Ramones. I wanted more on why the hell they were both the way they were, how they got to be there.. touched on the power and energy of music to heal but that's in their later life, where Lois finds the physical strength through music. I was more interested in learning about what they were trying to heal early doors

I got round to watching Under The Silver Lake the other night. Seemed to get middling reviews but I enjoyed it a lot. A non-cheesy neo noir type thing. Very stylish and a bit weird but believable, written well and well acted.

yeah I quite enjoyed that too, despite some of its issues
Charlie Humman or how ever you spell his name, no matter what they are trying to do he’s just not a Jason statham.
He totally put me off
