• I always thought the attraction to gravel bikes (and the reason they sell so well) was that they're the antithesis to lycra-clad roadie bro machismo. In other words, literally drop bar hybrids. But now the roadies have climbed aboard the gravel train, and you can buy yourself a £4k gravel wagon, so that seems to have gone out the window.

    in the us anyway it was the serious roadies made up the majority of 'gravel riders' from the get-go despite being advertised by lots of people riding party pace on crust bikes in flannels.
