  • The Long Goodbye.

Loved it. Had a great pace, not in a hurry. Elliot Gould is fantastic.

  • Chinatown next for more LA noir?

Or stick with Altman and go for Short Cuts?

  • Ah man, Short Cuts, what a film.

  • Its pretty much perfect, isn't it?

  • Been meaning to rewatch Chinatown, never seen Short Cuts - will give that a watch for sure.

Watching The Straight Story tonight. Loving it.

  • I (somehow) came to watch The DaVinci Code yesterday.

I'm fairly sure I read the book about when it became popular (and thought it was utter dross)

The film is inexplicably long and incredibly boring.

  • My favourite thing about it, is that even though everyone is an art historian/classics scholar/symboligyst they all continually explain and interrupt each other with the most rudimentary information about whatever incredibly famous painting/artists/architecture they happen to be talking about.

I'm a big fan and I have the t-shirt. There is also a short cameo from Biggin Hill airport of south east london cycling route fame.

I watched Wonder Woman [2017] last night and it was rubbish, no redeemable qualities at all, real cognitive dissonance reading its overwhelmingly positive reviews. Should have been all about Themyscira with your man Chris Pine crashing in right at the end.

  • Pretty sure I'd got the recommendation on here but watched Sorry to Bother You the other night. Really good, original, and very funny. Best thing I've seen in ages.

Also watched The Nightingale, definitely recommend it.

  • Boss level is fun if you want some shooty, fighty, action, time bending sci fi that doesn't take itself as overly seriously as tenet.

  • It was beautiful in places, but also so sad to see the strutting peacock lose his sense of panache. I loved the dancing scenes.

  • Saw Boogie Nights for the first time last night. Thought it was super.

  • Late to this but just finished watching Free Solo. Fuck me. Great film. Sort of glad I watched it on a small screen as I reckon if I’d seen it at the cinema I would’ve puked from vertigo / terror.

  • Great film, in fact mark wahlberg is even a decent actor in it

  • He hangs dong too.

  • He has his moments.

Returned it to the rental shop and got Magnolia out. Trying to make my way through pre-TWBB Paul Thomas Anderson.

  • My palms were sweating CRAZY in cinema viewing.

And I’m not even that terrified of heights...

    It was absolutely incredible.

  • I'm trying to remember the name of a film. I don't think I'm making it up. But I might be.

It's definitely a release from the last five years, but I seem to remember it being probably, 2017 or 2018. I think it's french. Black and white. Set in the 1960s. That's all I remember. Maybe set in paris.

Any ideas? Have googled extensively but I couldn't find any matches.

  • He’s got some great films and some absolute dog shite films

  • The artist it’s a bit older than 5 years I think although it is black and white from memory and it’s french

  • Yeah, not the artist.

Its annoying how little I remember about it but I remember the trailer vividly. It was deeeefinitely set innthen 1960s. It was ridiculously stylised. Parisian piazzas, coffee drinking, cigarettes, Vespa's. I seem to remember the protagonist wearing thick rimmed 60s glasses. Great suit etc. He might have been an actor or the husband of an actor.

Fuck knows. I probably dreamt it up.

  • Watched 'The Gentlemen' over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Ridiculous but very watchable. Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell were both great. After this and Paddington 2 I'm thinking maybe Grant is actually a comic actor!

  • Returned it to the rental shop

This still a thing in LA? Can't remember the last time i rented a movie in Blighty.

Do like Be Kind Rewind for a bit of feel good nostalgia.

  • A Star is Born was an easy watch with some good performances. Shame some of the totes emosh scenes felt like they were lifted from Lady Gaga music videos or perfume adds. Music was a bit X factor but i still enjoyed it and wouldn't mind watching it again.

Mahogany is the better sexy actor but i like that Cooper isn't afraid to be more flawed on screen.

  • Thanks but no.

@jono84 no not at all. Just a place that's local to us that we wanted to support. Very much a specialist cinephile kinda shop.

There's still so many films that can only be rented on amazon that we wanted to see that A) this place has and B) are cheaper to rent here than amazon. And it's blu ray rather than 1080p-ish streaming.

@birofunk - Ritchie doing what he does best. It's no Lock Stock or Snatch, but it was really great.
