They did the whole place on a budget of £20k but ended up spending 15 and it looks great, and they used tiles that cost 38p each (£19 per square metre) in the kitchen.

@fox when you say they "did" the "whole place" what do you mean? For example, £15k to buy all the furniture and fittings and wall and floor coverings would be good going, assuming they zero rated their own labour for installing everything?
The way I've written this probably looks passive aggressive. Apologies, I guess I feel that cost reporting is wishy washy without the substantiating detail. Also, I get that the point is that it looks real good and was relatively cheap. Appreciate that you may not have all the details!

• #41337
Yeah that’s nice, ikea kitchen too!

Look for everything that is not mentioned that you are expecting to be included and then check it is included, and if you are execting a certain spec make sure that is specified and what they (vs you) will be providing... a, ie windows, doors, sky lights, tiles, tiling, number of plug sockets, fitting of kitchen, demoltion, skips, rubbish removal, lighting spec, roof spec, cost for work that is not specifically in the extension but involves other parts of the house, ie radiators, boiler etc.

• #41339
is there more details? impressive

6k for two bathrooms. 6k for the kitchen. leaves 3k for the painting, floors, any other bits and bobs. would be tight but seems doable

I dunno... The description suggests they had to structurally alter multiple doorways and remove walls. And the sash windows look good, probably a few k of refurb cost in those if the flat was indeed in poor condition when they bought. Kitchen floor looks new also. Presumably electrical works cost the best part of £1k, based on my own kitchen recently.
If they've actually done it all at that price I'd be seriously impressed, and jealous! But at the very least they must have omitted architect's and structural engineers fees, warrant feez possible planning application fee ...

I can’t remember where I read about it, prob deezen, but they literally just changed the handles on a regular IKEA kitchen and it transformed its appearance, in photos... how it looks and feels irl may differ.

Did some dry laying for the cork haters

oh yeah, I'm assuming they didn't do any rewiring, structural works, boiler, buy any new furniture etc. as soon as you start doing that, you're going to go north of 15k quickly unless you're doing your own plumbing and joinery... here's the dezeen article
kitchen cabs are standard METOD range. timber fronts are EKESTAD range. upper door fronts are KUNGSBACKA range. I've had IKEA kitchens in my last two places - they're class imo

Link?
Edit: sorry that sounds really rude. What I meant was - was it you that's used those on your bathroom, as it looked great, and as we're doing ours soon, we may well just copy you!

• #41348
Sorry, I wish I was still that sharp.
(Also not a deliberate corkboard pun).

You can do that up here, although Edinburgh usually has some london tax on it. After looking at the pictures seems like a steal and then scrolling down and seeing 75k which makes more sense as that kitchen doesn't look cheap id guess at least 10-15 for that.
-
• #41350
Yeah, still impressive for 75k.
And I still doubt they included the architect/designer fee in that :)
I'd expect them to send out their own person to take a look and price it. You could then get them to organise the repair or take some cash and do it yourself.
